Anderson Family Reef - 1200 Gallon System

Have a build plan in my head and in post 1020 second pic of overflow, that top slot cut in glass, can you disucuss how it was done ? I assume 2 hole saw cuts then careful etched between. Etch both sides before snap? Quality of etch tool? I'll be doing this to a 1/2 inch starphire panel and need to get it right first time :)

Pics in post 1017 are truly inspirational and motivating.... Congrats!

Your approach to the slot for the external overflow is right on target however I actually had a glass shop cut it for me for $35. Saved me from the hassle and I got the beveled edge finish.

I used to do all my own cutting of materials but due to time constraints and lack of advanced industry tools I now choose to let the experts do some of the heavy lifting. :lolspin:

Thank you! I love this stuff!

Sump build pictures

great thread!

Do you have some type of diagram that shows more detail of your sump? I am about to build one and would love to copy it.......

To better answer your question I did at one time have a drawing of the sump but after it was finished I lost it. I also do many adjustments on the fly while building the different projects. Maybe these pictures will help:

nice timing....I am sitting at my computer with graph paper working on the design right now.... the last photo....why did you use the waterflow design rather than the alternating baffle design?...or as I look at it again...I guess you did but the last baffle is just a lot lower....

The closest baffle to the pump intakes could have been higher! And the one to its left that sticks out of the water could have been longer as well approaching the bottom of the sump closer... Make sense? Still works great but always improving!

got it...the last picture clears it all up.....the water has now equalized, thus it does not look like a water flow like in the original picture....but the water flow looks way cooler!!! LOL ... What are the bags by the intake? thx

Just some carbon bags... Need to make a carbon or a media reactor soon!
