Anemone advise

I have two false percs and I am starting to shop for a nem for them.
I really am looking at carpet anemones because i have not had good luck with BTA before.
anyone have any advise on a nem that is a little easier to take care of and has good colors?

Well if you don't have good luck with BTA's I would say a carpet would be out of the question. BTA is about the easiest they come. What bad luck have you had with them? if it's failureto keep them alive, you're not ready for most species.

I have to also agree w/dalston since carpets are much more finicky and delicate. I also want to know what your bad luck was with your bta? Bta's are the most forgiving of host anemones, if you can't keep one of these alive you should definately not move on to one of the more difficult ones.

Well, let me agree with everyone else.

But, what type of carpet? Haddonis are easier to care for then Gigs, but both are still harder then a BTA.

An additional issue, is that it is difficult to find a healthy carpet ( both common types ). IME, they don't ship all that well.

For the record, I kept BTAs for about 6 years (( sold them all off )) and currently have 3 Haddonis, with the oldest one being 9+ years old.

i had a RBTA in a 2 year old tank and it moved around a lot and ended up moving to the backside of the tank. I assumed it did not find any places with good flow. due to it moving i had a hard time keeping my clowns from messing with it, i was constantly adjusting a net to keep them off it.
this was 4 years ago and to the best of my memory, it dissapeared.
On average, how old does the tank need to be?
I have a 35g with 25g sump now but its only 3 months old so i figure it would be middle of spring before i am ready for one.

You are correct in saying middle of spring, the tank needs to be well established for a nem to thrive. Also IMO I would have to say that a 35g would be to small for any type of carpet, they get pretty big and the bioload would be too much... but I've never owned one before so maybe i'm wrong. :)

would the 25g refug and rock not make it into a 50g tank, i would have thought the 40+ lbs of rock could handle it. but i have never owned one either....

I think he is referring to the avaliable space in your tank not the volume of water, just too big.

stay away from a sebae unless you have pristine water and great lighting and you can find one that is not bleached i am going though this right now with my sebae and he's not doing to well my water params are excellent i have 0 problems with anything else in my tank and the tank is about 2 years old now sebaes are very difficult check this link out it helps a lot

I agree, I bought one and did not reseach i properly and I did not know it was bleached. I lost the battle trying to bring it back :(

Were the clowns hurting the BTA? Clownfish are supposed to host in anemones. They use them for shelter and bring them food.

Also, how were you using a net to keep the fish off the nem? I'm imagining trying to put a fishnet over my BTA, and it seems like it would block out most of the light and food.

I bought a clownfish just so it would "mess with" my anemone.

I meant I was imagining what it would be like to do that, not that I was thinking about doing it. It's just that it seems the OP was using some kind of net to separate his clownfish and BTA.

If I were to do that, I'd put the clownfish inside the net with the nem. I got the pair to watch them be symbiotic, but so far the clown has shown no interest in hosting anywhere. It's very disappointing to me.
