Anemone and Tunze Stream?

Has anyone ever had problems with Anemones getting shredded by a Tunze? I have heard stories about problems w/ other powerheads...if so, what are some precautionary measures that can be taken to help prevent an incident w/ Anemone meeting Tunze? Thanks

Lost a doreensis to a stream in a 300g.

Make sure the anemone does not have a reason to let go of the substrate and mount the streams away from BTAs and H. magnificas that wander.

my 10" RBTA has been in the same spot for 2 years now. I added a 6200 with the magnet holder about 12" from the anemone and have not had a problem. I would be cautious if your anemone is a mover.

As skinpuppi reefer said, I would be cautions if your anemone is moving. They can easily travel several feet overnight or let loose and float around the tank. When I get a new anemone (I recently added a GBTA to my Roses) I turned down the flow and once it settled in, I gradually increased the flow. I have my Tunzes mounted such that an anemone would have to travel down the rockwork and up the side glass in order to reach the tunzes. The front corners are not the best looking places for the big tunzes but much safer than the back corners that are closer to the rockwork and lights. None of my anemones move around now. It took several weeks for the GBTA to settle in.

ive only lost an anemone to a Fluval 400 and it was the intake valve that sucked up the anemone.

Be aware that one of the reasons they move is changes in flow patterns, so turning it up may cause it to move again. You can make a cage for the stream out of that plastic craft mesh as a temporary or perminent solution.

how do they get shredded in powerhead w/ screean that comes w/ them????
-i'm getting a RBTA this week. i also plan on getting 2 tunze streams to add to tank in a few months. this will cause RBTA to move?

whether or not they move is up to them. They sometimes move to seek out better lighting, water quality, foot defense, or water flow. As for getting shredded, they are about the consistency of jello spaghetti so the tentacles get sucked through the slots and chopped up. If you make a bigger cage with smaller holes the "suck" is spread out over a larger area and won't pull them in.
