Anemone dead - Aftermath!

Hi guys,

I woke up to quite a distressing site this morning. My new bubbletip anemone has climbed onto my tunze stream, and is now dead.

Apart from the loss of the animal, my tank is now very cloudy. He had tried to squeeze his way into the powerhead itself it would seem, hence a large portion of his body got minched up and blown around the tank. I took out the tunze, and had to cut the dead body out, it was so well "squeezed" into the grille. But I fear that a large amount of tissue as been minched up and blown around the tank. I removed as many bits as I could see - but the water is still very cloudy - and the fish are breating quite heavy.

Is there anything I can do to clear up the aftermath?

Thanks,

Matt

I would say to do a water change and run carbon....

also check your water parameters and keep an eye on them....

Agreed, water changes over the course of the next few days...

Do you have an overflow? You could put some filterfloss(quilt batting) in it. Sorry about your guy. :(

Also start testing for ammonia and possible get some amquel or ammo-lock for emergency purposes. Water changes and carbon will eventually take care of it though.

Do a very large water change. I would personally do a 50% one. Run some carbon and hopefully you don't loose fish.

Always cover those intakes especially if you have BTAs.

Sorry for your loss and do water changes.

I do not know why people continue to think they can keep anemones and not anemone proof their tanks? Bta especially should not be kept in tanks with powerheads that are not protected. We see threads like this every couple of days. hope fully people learn from your mistake.

Thanks for the input.

Dave - yes I feel prety stupid - you know when you've done something wrong, and you get a real Homer Simpson moment.... well this is one of them...... I knew I this would happen - deep down inside I knew it, I've read it enough times, but I just didn't think of it, if you kow what I mean - this has got to be one of my more stupid moves since starting in this hobby......

Learned from it - yes - not getting another anemone!

its not that you shouldnt get another anenome but just take all safety precautions before putting him at risk. Not your fault entirely just everyone learns fromtheir mistakes, just sucks when its learned with a dead specimen

I just can't see myself have the confidence to get another one - I'm not gonna jump on the band wagon "anemones should be left in sea" ....... its just I feel like I had my shot, I blew it, and thats my fault - if I ever decide to get one again, it will be in a nice species tank - a 2' cube or something..... and totally "safe" for an anemone ;)

Cheers,

Matt

I'm not sure if people use a watts per gallon or not. I've been lucky mine moved to it's spot and hasn't moved in over 2 years, even the clone is right on the rock in the same spot.

also ANEMONES REGUIRE GOOD CURRENT HIGH WATER QUALITY AND INTENSE LIGHTIN ABOUT 2 WATTS PER GALLON.

2 watts per gallon is barely enough for zoas shrooms

Once again, your advice sounds like it comes out of a very old book. "2 watts per gallon" is not "intense lighting," and not many people who actually keep anemones would use the "watts per gallon" standard without a whole bunch of qualifiers (tank size, lighting type, anemone type, etc).

Your antics are not funny. The advice you have been giving is ludicrous.
