anemone dead

my anemone is dead - only had her a week. It appears she somehow got into the Korallia 3, she was cut into 3 pieces. What can I do to prevent this from happening again? can you stretch a hair-net or panty hose or something over the Korallia to protect livestock?

Look around there are some good korilla mod threads on here. One of the better ones I've seen was a placstic mesh material cut to fit around the intake. You can get the mesh fairly readily from most of the fabric/craft stores.

To add, I wouldn't remove the pieces from the tank. If you have a good sized piece of the nem, it will probably regenerate and you'll have a new nem in a few weeks. I've had mine cut in half by either 1) powerheads or 2) ripping them apart trying to remove them from rocks....and I've never once (knock on wood) lost one...but you will have to do frequent water changes to keep it going...

What is better is to use something like plastic canvas and build a cage around the Koralia. That will increase the overall amount of surface area the suction occurs in and will therefore reduce the force of suction.

I have a tube anemone that i moved to a bigger tank. When I bought it the guy at the LFS ripped its sack off and bagged it.The anemone was fine in my tank for roughly 8 months,no problems at all. When I moved it I ripped off the sack which was about 6 inches long,I acclimated it for 35 min and never cam out when i placed him into the tank. Its been about 4 days.I hope I didnt kill it.

I read this post last night and said im glad mines done moving.Woke up this morning mine was shredded by my K4. I guess he changed his mind?

Cockybrock said leave them in the tank. I did - one piece is doing nothing, but the other smaller piece is attached to rock and trying to inflate. So leave them in the tank, and hope for the best.

The best thing (in my experience) was to leave larger pieces alone and let them regenerate...you'll need to do a good sized water change to remove any of the "waste" the chopped up anemone has added to the water...but other than that, one of the pieces is bound to survive. I've attached two photos: 1) what one of my rose bubbles looked like after a bout in a K2 (I had to cut part of the plastic cover off to remove her) and 2) what she looks like now...

Hopefully it gives an idea that a stable tank can recover almost anything!

Sorry for the blurry photos...

I don't think that it was ever established (in this thread) what kind of anemone she has. By the fact that one portion has reattached, I'm guessing that CockyBrock is correct that it's a BTA of some sort.

There's no telling. Usually if a piece of the foot and a piece of the oral disc are found on one of the pieces, that piece will survive. Sometimes all that is required is a piece of the foot and gastrovascular cavity.
