my gbta was badly bleached 2 months ago when i bought it, since then i have been feeding 1/2 a silverside a day and it seemed to be doing well, fully open all the time (mouth closed) and taking food. now it does'nt look so good. keep moving to the back of the tank is'nt open much and mouth is sometimes wide open and takes food but then spits it out. my water params. are all perfect plenty of flow in a 20 gl with 2 emperror 150's 2 maxi jet 100's and a protien skimmer. i do 15% weekly water changes with ro water.. and i have T5 light kit (dont remember the watts, but know it was for a 20 gl) im not sure if this is something i caused or if it was dieing when i bought it... any help would be very great . thanks in advance.

Sounds damaged from the beginning. Is it still bleached or has it recovered the zooxanthellae? Gaping mouths/not eating are a bad sign. With the information you have provided it sounds like you are doing all you can. Do you have anything else in the tank? What's your SG/Temp/pH?

Are the emporer filters putting a lot of bubbles in the tank?

Yeah I agree. It does seem like your doing all you can. Your doing all the right things too. Hmmm.

salinity is 1.025 ph is 8.0 and temp is 80.4, it is still some-what bleached but is getting green tints to it. amonia is 0 nitrite is 0 nitrate 0, calcium is 440, phosphate is 0,

Still sounds like a bad/mishandled specimen from the start. You've likely done all you can. Cross fingers and watch closely - you probably want to remove it (depending on its size) prior to decomposition to preserve your water quality.

Also, I've never fed a BTA much directly. Mine like to grab some of the larger chunks of the frozen fish foods from the water column. On occasion I will feed some chopped squid directly. I think silversides or whole fish are not a natural prey item for these guys. A few years ago I would feed silversides but only 2, maybe 3 three times a week. I highly doubt that your feeding regimen caused any problems; just wanted to share.

Good luck - I'd second the comment on pulling it from the tank early if it looks like it's going to die.

it has moved to the back of the tank out of the light and out of flow range but is completely open with mouth closed.. not sure why, it did eat about 1/4 a piece of silverside last night.but just in case what signs should i be looking for to know when it's time to remove it from the tank? again thanks for your help

Well based on what you just described, I wouldn't be worried anymore about it dying in your tank. Its a good thing that it came back so far. Congrats to you.
