Anemone ID

I've had this guy for about 8-9 months now. When I purchased it from the LFS they weren't quite sure what species it was. I bought the mystery anemone... I figure it's about time I knew what the was exactly.

Anybody know what this guy is exactly?

looks kind of like an LTA to me but ill let the experts chime in...nice looking tank and nem by the way.

Looks pretty happy. Congrats.

Based on the single picture, I would guess H. crispa. Would need to see some pictures of the underside of the oral disk to narrow it down.

h2, thank you for the compliment...

I too thought it was some sort of a LTA but the longest tentacles are maybe an inch max, its deffently not like any LTA I've ever seen before. It has a body and mouth more like a carpet, the pictures don't do it justice for how beautiful of a purple color this guy is.

When I got him it was about 5" fully opened up, in the photos his foot is extended a ways down into that rock and now when he's opened up all the way "mid day" he's about 9-10" already.

My Maroon loves this thing to death and the best part is after I acclimated the nem and put him in that very spot, he's never moved from that spot even after two tank tear downs and moves.

Here's a little bigger picture.

Thanks to everyone for the replies, I'm sure there is someone around here that can tell me exactly what this guy is.

After doing a little research on Heteractis Crispa I think you guys are right on the money, at least this is the closest I can find on the web although I can't find any photos with a similar color pattern to this one.

I usually don't buy things I don't know about but my lfs brought two of these in and I couldn't pass on one of them for $20 with as beautiful as it was.

Thank you for the replies and the compliments, hopefully this guy will keep going strong for years to come!

Verry unuasual coloration for H.Crispa. Its a beatiful Nem but Im not sold on H.Crispa yet.

Can you get a pic of the underside, the foot. also maybe the mouth.

Arati, this is about the best I could do without trying to manhandle him, I fed him a nice chunk of silverside hoping he might close up a little more to see the base of him but thats not happening. It's got one sticky sting to it though!

This is the best I could do... I really don't want to mess with him too much and I'll have to deal with my clown biting me like he/she always does.

Not sure about that Flighty, looks like H. crispa verrucae in the picture 3 posts above. Thoughts?

You are right, Scott. That pic was a broken link when I last looked at the thread. I withdraw my ID suggestion :)
