Anemone ID

Could someone Id this guy for me. I can't get a pic of the underside because he's too shy but the foot is yellow and there are no obvious verruca (sp?)

He's just been given to me and I need to know the best place to put him

thats a tough one. you're sure there are no purple spots near the top of the underside?

There has to be spots on the column. You may have to look pretty close. They are most likely blueish or purple like Flighty said.

Hopefully the spots look like this.

If not, it may be an Atlantic carpet in a strange posture, but even they have spots.

I still can't convince the anemone to lift its skirts long enough for a pic but there may be darker spots under there.
The last 2 pics was minutes after I put the anemone in the tank. These 2 were taken a few minutes ago, the anemone attached where I put it and hasn't moved an inch since. The foot and column are the same colour as the mouth and if it helps with ID at all the tentacles wiggle around of there own accord even when there is no flow

Hmm, it could even be a magnifica at this point. is the foot on rock or in the sand?

The only way to really ID would be to lift the skirt with tongs or something and get a flash shot.

The foot is attached to the base of a rock right on the sand. I tried to use tongs but I couldn't take a picture and hold the skirt up at the same time.

So if it's an atlantic carpet and I was to have a species tank what conditions would it like. It is really hard to find any info on atlantic carpets that doesn't involve flushing

Do they like to be high up on the rocks near light? Down near the sand?
Lots of flow?
Will 150 mh and 2 65w pcs be enough light for it?

Oh and how big do they get?

I thought it may be an Atlantic carpet after the first set of pics, but now I doubt it. Looks like Gigantea to me.

A gigantea would be preferable, is there any deciding characteristics for either species that would tell me definitely what it is?

The LFS that gave it me is clueless and his supplier is not above lying to him (he ordered a neon goby and the supplier sent him an engineer goby, poor guy couldn't figure out why the fish was growing so big :lol: ) . So the anemone could of come from anywhere

Atlantic carpets are much tighter than that. If that makes any sense? They don't have the deep folds to the polyp like your anemone. Their tentacles are packed tighter together than yours, more like a haddoni. They have a brown kinda checker board pattern on the upper column.

ok maybe it is a gigantea, it certainly is acting and looking like those in the photos. The spots (verrucae?) are still throwing me a little though.
I finally got a better flash pic of the underside and if I use a little imagination I can almost see purple spots I also took a short video of it making this the most photographed animal in my tanks...with the exception of my achilles

There is no doubt at this point. You have a gigantea.
