Anemone identification

Hi there, I am new to this forum but I have been an avid reader for close to two years. This site has helped me a lot throughout my journey in the hobby.

I just got this anemone today and was wondering what it could be. Doesn't seem to be in too bad of a shape but looked bad in the store and seems to still be coloured even though all the other anemones they had were bleached. It is about an inch and a half diameter.

It is hard to tell since it is stressed and likely still adapting to your tank. My guess is H. malu or H. crispa. It look stressed, bleached and dyed. The yellow seem to be wearing off. Wait a few days until it expand more and I can guess better.

thank you for the help that was my guess except i wasn't sure because i didn't think they were yellow and i guess i know why now lol, it being dyed didn't even come to mind, that is a bit frustrating. Is there anything i can do to help it back to good health? i recently brough a bta back from being completely bleached but im thinking this one might need different care.

Agreed with Orion. When I was an anemone rookie (now novice lol) I bought a dyed crispa. It didn't last that long DOA in a couple of weeks. You might have better luck than I did...only time will tell. Good luck

Thanks, do you have any ideas for me that might help the anemone have a better chance? It seems super sticky still and doesn't deflate or anything

The tentacles now have rings around them does that help to identify?

i didn't get a new pic up because it looked exactly the same in pics as those first ones except for slight rings the camera doesn't pick up today it moved off the shell into the sand

Rings on the tentacles and living in the sand would cause me to believe that it is H. Malu. Also, the tentacles appear to be 2 different lengths in pictures 3 and 4, which is also consistent with H. Malu compared to H. Crispa. That isn't a 100% ID, but it is definitely leaning towards H. Malu.

Looks like a Sebae to me. If so make sure everything is balanced and tank is good and stable, I think and I could be wrong but they are the hardest to keep and demand more light than a normal anemone

Do you also think dyed? So far it gets bigger at night and shrinks down in the light, I try to shade it partially sometimes, its under a 250w mh and 4 blue actinics

so this is the anemone after a bit over a month, its a little bigger and has a bit of stripes on it now, it eats like a pig

That is a H. malu. I cannot clearly the rings on the tentacles but the pink coloration on some of the tentacles in a identification characteristic of this species when it is there. How deep is your sand bed? It should dug in all the way and hide it's column completely.

The sand bed is 3-4 inches there, most of the time its laying out flat like the first pic and the body seems mostly covered, it stillvisnt acclimated to my light though I shade it most of the time or it shrinks a bit
