anemone not moving around

I bought an anemone 2 days ago from my lfs and also a tomato clownfish that was hosting in it. I put it on my live rock and when I woke up, I find it laying on it's side in a shaded spot but still happy and open. I tried moving it again today but it just went back to the same spot, it hasn't even bothered to wander around and find a spot for itself. It currently has no signs of stress and the foot looks okay. My tank is about 3 months old, I was going to get the clownfish only but my sister persuaded me to get the anemone along with him too. I know it's the wrong thing to do but I can't return it now...should I try moving it or should I just leave it be? It still looks happy now..It's currenty not attached to anything

What kind of anemone? I would suggest not bothering it and letting it settle in. If it still looks happy, just give it time. It sounds like it has already moved a bit. Some more details as to the kind of anemone might help. Some like sand, some like rocks, etc.

You can't make an anemone stay where you want it. I'd leave it be and see if you can keep it alive where it is. A stable mature tank is preferred, I'm guessing you know that.

What kind is it?

If it's not attached, it's not happy, even if it's open. But moving it won't help. A picture would help A LOT!

I think it's a sebae

OP, I know this is probably news to you, but "Sebae" is a name used for at LEAST 3 very different kinds of anemones, each with rather different needs.

One thing I can tell you - if it's white or yellow with short tentacles you may be looking at some pretty bad odds for survival.

Yeah, that's pretty unhealthy. It looks more like a BTA or maybe LTA. But it could be a H. Crispa (sebae) too. Regardless of which kind, it is very bleached out and so it can't process the lighting into food anymore. You may want to try feeding it some mysis. If it isn't sticky enough to grab the food and put it into it's mouth, it may be too far gone already.

+1, you might want to try and take it back to the lfs you purchased it from.

I just normally duct tape them to the rocks, seems to keep them in place :lolspin:

To the OP, indeed not a happy nem, if you decide to keep it you may also want to seperate it and the clownfish. A clown that much larger then the nem can do a lot of damage while trying to love the anemone.

will brine shrimp do? And how often will should i feed it? Will the clownnfish feed it too?

Mysis is far more nutritious for it than brine, but if it is what you have... my btas will also eat pellet or flake, though typically as leftovers that get by the fish. It doesn't take much. Try not to over feed as that can be bad too.

try posting some more details of your tank like parameters and type of lighting etc. brown is not a good thing. I wouldnt think you paid alot of that nem, good luck bringing it back though, they were alot happier selling it to you, than you were to buying it. Try giving it away to somebody local so they can try and nurse it back to health. A 3 months old tank is not going to have proper stability to care for an anemone, especially the kind you have.

If a white anemone starts turning brown inside its tentacles, it is a very good thing. It means it is recovering it's population of zooanthellae, or light processing algae.
