Anemone proof koralia

Well, I just turned my lights back on after them being off for Earth Day and discovered that my new GBTA is in tiny pieces clogging up my #2 Koralia. Was the last thing I expected to see.

I only had it since Sunday and it moved around my tank.

Has anyone tried covering the Koralia's with netting (like a sock). It might fill with algae quick but willing to try it to save a nem.

I'm open to any ideas.......:sad2:

First of all turning lights off in an aquarium with light sensitive organisms isnt a great way to help earth day. But when you first get a nem the best way to protect them is to wrap powerheads in filter floss, and change the floss daily.

turning the lights off for a day isnt going to hurt. There are cloudy stormy days in the wild where there is no light for a day maybe more. Also i believe there was a totm where the person turned the lights off for 1 day every week with no ill side effects, in fact i believe it helped his corals.

As for covering a koralia i have never tryed but my rockwork is quite a distance from any of the glass in my tank. good luck

I would try going with a piece of black spongy filter media, cut it to size and rubberband it around the circumference of the intake. If you can't find something big enough at the LFS you might be able to find something at Michael's, AC Moore or another sewing and crafts store.

I'm talking about this material.

I tried panty hoe's, they clogged way too fast for my taste. The plastic mesh from the local craft store worked out best. For koralia 3's I used an egg shaped one they sell at micheals craft store and most places like that. For the rest of the koralia's they sell the material in sheets, in different spacing sizes

the nice thing, is that the mesh plastic is durable enough so that you can take a brush to clean it when needed, and it wont clog up.

just my .02
