Anemone proof power heads?

Has anyone modded their power heads to be more anemone safe? Ideas for hydor korilia power heads would be great, that's what I have.

I just lost a BTA to one and I have not had fun keeping the tank from crashing the last few days.

I'd like some ideas of what to do to these power heads to keep an nem from poking around in it... I'm thinking maybe wrapping part of it in a fiberglass window screen, but that seems like the mesh might be a bit too fine.

Sorry to hear about your loss...I lost my first BTA to a powerhead...the nano to be exact...and now I have a RBTA that's just beautiful...and so I'm in the process of doing the same thing...

What I'm considering doing is putting this flexible material that you can buy at Wal-mart or a craft store and cover them if you want....read this article...

Hope this helps...

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking. I might try the window screen idea, I have some in the garage. It's black, so hopefully it won't look too bad.
I guess it's just a matter of how fast it gets plugged up.

Well from what I've read...the hydor's don't necessarily need to be covered..you just need to monitor the movement...

Hydors DO need to be screened. That's the first place my BT went. Vortech has some nice covers for their powerheads and they fit on my Koralia 2's perfect. I got mine at Salty Supply, 3 pack. They work.

Those look easy, but I am concerned that they would collect a lot of garbage. I think I'll try making window screens.
It's been a few days now, hopefully that means I'm out of the woods and the tank isn't going to crash.

In this old photo of my tank, you can see a DIY course sponge I placed over my mod'ed maxi-jet mod. Currently I have a vortech pump on the opposite side of my tank. The sponge was cleaned monthly.

put up signs to the nem knows not to get to close!!

The screens work but if they are DIY make sure you know what they are made of. I have seen some window screens that are a really fine metal screen coated with plastic and without reading it I would have never known. Also if you use sponge covers just wash them off occasionally and you will have some extra crap catchers lol.
