So i've had my BTA for over a week now and he has moved into a little cave where he get some light. Well when the lights are on he's open like in this pic.

Now when the lights go off he goes crazy

Now i'm not sure whats hes doing but params are

amm/nit/nitrate 0
calc 433
alk 10dkh
mag 1320

Its not too much flow because when he still does it with the powerheads off

Now his mouth is closed tight but sorta puffed out like its puckered. Any ideas? http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq119/Jkraft136/100_1442.jpg

ps. dont pay attention to the dates my camera is special

So far, it looks pretty good. With the proximity of the urchin, it might have been irritated and trying to get away from the spines. As loong as that foot is anchored, it's extending and opening in the light like in that first picture, and the mouth isn't gaping (you'll know when it is)... it's in good shape.

With the right parameters they're a lot more hardy in a seasoned tank than we make them out to be, especially multi-generational tank ones. Plenty are beat up by clowns, chopped up in powerheads or sent through overflows. They can take a good beating, as long as the environment is correct. I'm trying to get mine out of a rock it's way down into, and it's being stubborn. 15 minutes hung upside down, in the air... and it still won't budge. I felt bad for my clowns, but it was kind of funny at the same time. My poor little male was trying to jump out of the water to get back into it. And no, I wouldn't recommend doing any thing like this unless you're a somewhat seasoned BTA owner and know signs of stress, how they can get damaged, and healing patterns. So I'm onto the next step and have it 100% hidden from the light, with the rock propped up against the wall.

Long story short, keep it happy with SMALL feedings (a few mysis every couple of days), and keep an eye on it.

What you are describing is not really much of a concern. It could be anything from a feeding response to seeking out the best possible position in the tank. If it starts to shrivel up, bleach or get a loose mouth, then you should worry.
Also, don't be surprised if it hides in the rock work for a long period of time.
