I have had this anemone for a about a year now and just a few days ago found that it had split! What a nice surprise! I had read about this, but was suprised to see it happen in my tank! Just thought I would share a nice little success story with you all.......it sure does feel good to have something like this happen. Makes all the hours and hours that you pour into your tank really feel like it pays off!

This picture does not do the best job of showing of the beaty of these anemones. The flash takes away the nice colors in it. They are a nice soft pink color with soft florecent green tenticles. My Marron clown is really happy about it also! She is having a blast gowing back and forth playing in both of them now! Lots of fun to watch.

According to Rod, when an anemone splits, it is not necessary a good thing (I was so excited at 1st, until he told me that). It means it felt threatened somehow--whether it was from a change in the temp, lighting, SG, etc. It feels that if it might be in any danger whatsoever, it has a better chance at survival as 2, than as 1 being. Still seems pretty cool when it happens though!

Yes, They usually split due to some sort of stressful event.. It doesnt mean that your tank or water parameters are in bad shap, but something caused a little stress. Even things like a peice of food that was too large.. o.. r what ever.. Not necessarily a bad thing.. Now you have 2 :)

wow.....what a downer.......so much for a "success story"! I guess I have a lot to learn! But your right....now I have two!

I watched a show called EQUATOR last week about the reef and they had a section on anemone's and splitting...there was a section of the reef that was just covered with them...all from splitting, and they did not looked stressed, that's for sure. There is a good chance yours split just to reproduce, so don't be too disappointed!!

Mine hasn't moved an inch since I placed it where it is now, even after it split. Been there for 9 months now. Guess I got lucky... so far.

You could always cut them in half and get two. Saw Anthony Calfo do that last friday. Was pretty cool. After one hour they formed back into a circle and the foot was attached to the bottom of the container.

Heres mine in the sump 24hrs after the upgrade.....took about 12hrs to completely seperate!
has done two more times in the last month...guess it dont like the sump...
