Sorry guys,

Went on vacation. I will reply to the handfulof posts soon. Nems look great

John

Would love to see some pictures of them if you can post any.

Thanks!

Once I figure out how to post pics which I am sure is easy once I figure it out, I will.

Does anybody live on Long Island out there? The nems will be at a convention at the Riverhead aquarium in in a few weeks. Probably will sell them there

Each time my bta's have split, there's been some shift in the tank that I can identify as the "stress" causing the split. In my clones, a change in flow has triggered several splits (either adding or moving a powerhead or in one case the hob skimmer had been offline for a couple of days and a split occured when it was turned back on). There have also been splits after lighting changes (moved from vho to mh, then an increase in the mh wattage). Another split happened the day after my bta was attacked by a carnivorous fireworm (Hermodice). Yes, they keep growing through all of this but it appears (in my clones anyway) that a day or two of parameter change (flow, lighting) is enough to induce a split.

I agree with you!!!!! however, I do not have those stresses and do not forget both tanks are splitting at the same time. That is the thing that intrigues me. I have pics but am having trouble uploading them.

Just tell me how to get the BTA's off the rock without killing them?

If you are having a hard time removing the nem it is probably very healthy. I would leave it alone unless you have to move it.

A Ice Cube

Maybe, but on the foot only please, and not for very long. I have some bta's that let go with this method (from plastic baskets, haven't tried it with any attached to rock) but most don't.

Could also try shading it and seeing if it will move onto the glass of the tank, or directing flow at it to make it move.

see if your LFS will give credit for the clones...I had a RBTA that split like crazy and i used to get $80 in store credit for each one...

Eventually i got rid of the mother because it got annoying and my SPS didn't like the frequent splits because the clone always wandered off a bit from the mother.

John, I started with 3 of them on a rock 5 years ago, there is over 15 of them in the tank now. Soon I am going to have to make some choices... I have been told you can just peal them off the rock. it looks good on paper however in practice it's a different story...

Ours have split several times and we have thined them a couple of times. Now our Marron Clowns have paired up and started laying eggs about every 3 weeks.

I think I am on pace top beating that. My nem split again over the weekend in my big reef tank. If a nem splits in my smaller reef tank, now we are talking. I will give it a week to see if there is any corolation. I had a red slime problem and I treated it in my small tank so the chemistry is a little different. They are all healthy though.

7 splits in 11 monts!!!!

I don't think I would have put these in my tank knowing they would have split so much and that they are so difficult to get out. I thought of a great idea over the weekend, I am thinking about asking the LFS where I bought the orginal (3) rock from and asking him to trade the rock with the BT's for the same weight in cured rock. I'm sure someone would like to have a large piece of rock with about 10 BTA on it right?
