Anemone sucked inside itself

I bought a LTA just yesterday along with two maroon clowns...besides the slightly larger of the maroon clowns tearing up the smaller i have other problems. The LTA in the day is very open...the circle, not the mouth the mouth is open somewhat but the whole anemone is just open. I don't remember if thats good or not, but besides that some of its tentacles are shriveled and most are full and pinkish, the shrivled are purpleish and the base of most of the tentacles are white. And, the anemone goes inside of its self when the lights go out...what can i do if something needs to be done, my tank is a 40 gallon with refuge and its been cycled for more then 4 months..., nitrate is below 5 and i have just the two maroons and the anemone, besides some snails. Ive done my research but i guess i didnt know what to look for because i havent had first had experience. Oh and encase anyone is wondering the bigger of the two clown's (the bad one) is in a breeder net in the tank while the smaller heals and gets use to the tank.

First of all. Maroons IMO are one of the most difficult species of clownfish to mate. They are aggressive to the point of death. The vary SIGNIFICANTLY with gender. Depending on the size of the male, you may indeed have two females on your hand, in which they will fight to the death.

Second, a breeders net might not be the best thing to house your bigger clownfish in, simply because of the little spur underneath their eyes which are known for getting caught in the net and causing the fish severe damage.

Your anemone's mouth should be closed TIGHTLY. When you descripe that some tentacle are shriveled, it leads me to think if maybe your maroons are biting them off. This species of clown is notorious for doing this. Have you seen your fish biting the anemone's tentacles? If so, this could be part of the reason for your anemone's mouth being open.

How long have you had the anemone in the tank prior to adding the clownfish? Your anemone may need time to situate before it gets raped by a couple of over anxious clown fish. With an LTA you really shouldn't see it's base because they bury it with sand.

If the base of the tentacles are a translucent white, I would worry. This could mean it is bleaching. About the anemone closing at night, this is normal.

im pretty sure that one of the maroons is female and other male...The bigger and much more maroon dark reddish color of the two was the one attacking the orange one. Females generally are more maroon and the males are more orange or bright red which is the case for mine. The anemone was introduced at the same time, which could have been a mistake but i did not see the maroon nipping at the LTA they leave it alone, at this point i think they are just trying to settle in, im not worried about the rape or the anemone as u put it lol. But yes i am aware that the maroon in the net could get caught but its the only thing i can do at this point, besides its always upright never laying down so i don't think that bone would catch on anything, the only thing im worried about is how long she will have to stay... I plan on letting her out every day for a period of 1-10 min with supervision to see what happens. But no matter what im leaving her in there for 2 days... maybe ill switch the male and female in and out of that breeders net so they don't feel confined...I really don't know exactly what will happen but ill try my best to make it work.

Oh yeah and about the planting of the foot...mine hasent moved since i placed it, but its just kind of laying on its side somewhat. I read a different post about this and someone said the best thing to do would be to dig a hole in my sand but im going to wait on it and see where the anemone ends up.

Ya know i just got a pair of maroons also and an lta about a week ago, The two maroons latched on to each other instantly, instinctively i stuck my hand in the tank to break them up, which was a little harder than i thought but i managed. They continued to fight to all ends but iknew they do that. The problem w/ maroons is when they fight instead of one backing down and takeing its place as male, they continue to fight it out to the death. As far as the anemone, my female maroon took first night, and now she's gaurding it from the male. And on another note, my lta didn't boot till she started hosting it. Good luck, keep posted.

see the female maroon is attacking the male but the male just runs away...but his fins are torn up and i dont want anything worse to happen...Idk if i should just let her loose for a cpl hours and see what happens.

That sounds like an exhausting routine, letting one out for a couple of hours each day. If you have the patience, than I say go for it. It could very well be the best approach. I have had the best result in the past using a container that only the smallest clownfish can retreat to. That works best IMO, and you can sit back and let the fish work it out.

I hope you don't have a ritteri anemone either, that would be very bad. What kind of light do you have?

At any rate. I wish you luck.

I have an anemone that also turns almost inside out during the night. The tentacles are consumed by the foot and when it's complete my anemone looks like a small white ball. Quite amazing to watch. During the day it's fully extended.

I have nothing hosting this anemone, and it's very healthy. Just a strange habbit. I believe it's a BTA

Could i use a clear Tupperware container for the male to retreat to? And my lighting, a 2x65 watt half actinic and 10k coralife.

I think you could have difficulty using a clear container, because the clownfish will have difficulty seeing it.

I would upgrade the lights, without a doubt. I started off with PC's. Get some MH's and you will see a great difference. Try this website Oceanencounter.com, you can get a retro EVC 250w kit with a bulb for cheap.
