Anemone Tank Pros/Cons

sinned

In Memoriam
Hello-
I currently have a LPS dominated tank (see below). 44 gal. glass (36X15X18).
175w MH w/2 39w T-5's.Center overflow - sumpless-skimmerless-reactorless.
I dose a capful of iodine, calcium and magnesium weekly. Circulation is via a Tunze 6100 placed in upper left corner. I am contemplating converting it to an anemone tank.
What are the pros and/or cons of such a tank. Is lighting sufficient? Supplements?
Other considerations? Thanks for your help. Dennis

wait whats the question>?if you could turn ur tank into an anemone tank

well pros/
you get to see the natural symbiosis without worring about ur anemone moving and jacking up ur corals

you can cater to your anemones needs as if it were in the wild

its fun to have a biotope tank

cons/

it gets boring haveing 2 fish in the whole tank

One of the mods had one and it was also featured as TOTM at one point. Don't have a link but if you search or look thru the archives of TOTM, you'll find it.

Dennis what type of anemones?

If its the carpet family, I reccomend you only keep the clownfish it will be found with in the wild.

If they are Quadricolor, then take a look at Anemone aka Kevins tank. He has a tang, and a couple other fish in there with the 25+ anemones in there. Ive seen it in person and it is cool. So I did one myself.

Carpets are the most aggresive, while qudricolors are the least and best for doing so in anemone only tank.

I kept over 10 RBTA's in a 60g sumpless, skimmerless, no additives needed. The salt when doing water changes(large ones) should be enough.

I had 260w PC, very good flow, and did 40% water changes every weekend.

If you can keep LPS in that type of a set up, it should be an easy task for you.

But like I said it all depends on what species...

For an 18 inch high tank that 175 should do. Be sure its a 14K bulb though.

10ks make your anemones shrink a bit, and you cant see colors, 20k will starve them a bit. All is possible but it also depends how often, or even if you will want to manually feed them.
