Anemone zooanthenal? question

How long does it take for an anemone to get it's zooanthanel back once it is in optimum condtions.

I have an anemone that was once bright pink but it expelled all its zooanthanel. It is in optimum environment now and growing but the color is not coming back yet.

Thanks

I'm a little confused. Usually anemones that are bright pink have already expelled their zooxanthellae. Zooxanthellae is a gold/brown algae that lives in the tissues of the anemone. If the anemone has lost its pink color then that is another problem all together. Losing the pink is usually a lighting problem.

I thought the bright pink was the zooxanthellae. The nem is brown/gold.

So if i get some better lighting on this nem how long will it take for the pink to come back? The nem is well fed and growing but under shop lights in shallow water. I've kept many nems in the same lighting and they kept there color.

thanks for the info. I think i learned something.

Agreed.

Supplementary feedings can only give the anemone so much nutrition. The zooxanthellae algae (like phender said) is a gold/brown color. I think you were gettting pigmentation and zooxanthellae mixed up. Pigmentation is the colors you see on the anemone (pink). If it lost its pigmentation then your lighting isn't strong enough. With BTAs, you can keep them under well-powered PCs.

For the record, RBTAs should have dark red pigments.

Hi Reefbox,

Some of the Rose BTA I have seen lose their pink/red pigments fairly quickly once in captivity even under bright lighting. I don't know what the answer is for bringing back the pink or how long it will take if you can.

I was confusing the pigmentation the zooxanthellae. Thanks for the help.

How long does it take to get the pigmentaion to turn fire pink like it once was once the nem is in optimum lighting conditions? This is a captive breed species.

Thanks

It really depends on the conditions you are keeping it in. If you are providing an optimum enviroment, with little stress and frequent feedings it can take anywhere from several weeks to two months. Good luck!
