anemones and powerheads

It is not extreme at all when I constantly read posts that anemones have gone through a powerhead.

I don't think that the people who have BTAs which have not been sucked into powerheads are generally inclined to make posts saying so.

We are ultimately responsible for the animals that we keep. Suggesting that it is not necessary to protect the anemone is rediculous. Taking a chance on its life is cruel!

Your argument here is a straw man, and its conclucion and accusation a little offensive. If I had suggested he use chocolate milk instead of saltwater, that would have been ridiculous.

BTA's are able to get through gutter guard. Saw it happen with my very own eyeballs. Cage needs to be something with smaller size holes than that.

Thanks for the correction. :)

I think I'll refrain from any more 'advice' regarding BTAs and PHs. :p

Make any conclusion you want. However it is a FACT that ANY anemone that has the capabilities to roam is in danger of an unprotected powerhead.

Sorry, I think you misread my post. I didn't make any conclusions; I was talking about yours.

Have yourself a very nice day. :)

How did someone asking to show pics of options to cover PH's turn into a flame session?
The question wasn't should he cover them, but how to cover, and ALL intakes should be covered for nems safety, no brainer.

oh dear! ......:mixed:.... I really didn't mean for this to degenerate into a slanging match!!! Anyway, thanks for all the more helpful suggestions that have been put forward---I rahter like the idea of enclosing the whole powerhead in a rigid cage but I'd have to find something to construct it with very small holes......will put my thinking cap on!

It happens sometimes.
People are really passionate about this hobby, and no one wants to think their idea or way isn't the best.
As long as we're learning through discussion w/ out stepping on too many toes.
Wanna see a real mess?
Ask which is better between DSB and BB!LOL

your all wrong. your not supposed to cover powerheads your not supposed to have powerheads in the tank. duh

oh and BB is the only way to go.

oh and powercompact lights wont keep anemones alive.

skimmers are not effective on small tanks.

...a few of the dead horses around here.

Sorry, I can be a little slow when it comes to computer lingo, esp with fish, took me about 5 minutes to decipher GSM, lol! If you could just tell me what it is (BB & DSB) I could prolly share a few laughs with you...

Here is how I covered my 620.

OK. So I don't have the deep pockets for tunze yet, and I set up my tank before I discovered RC. I have 4 MJ1200's on a wave timer in my tank. The "strainer" is on the intakes.

Do you guys think that is sufficient to keep my BTA out of harms way, or will they get sucked through those as well?

If you mean the strainer that comes with the MJ's, yes, they can (and have, search powerhead and bta or rbta or anemone, just be ready for some gruesome pictures) get sucked through those.

I use vinyl window screening, make a bag-shape, and attach with cable-ties around the strainer. Leave some free space between the strainer and the screen or whatever you use. You have to clean them regularly but better that than cleaning 'nem pieces out.
