Yes they are cheaper. Trying to keep them paired up longterm with clowns may be difficult. Many reefers report them eating their clowns.
Clowns, which come from the pacific, don't host with condys, which come from the atlantic, in the wild but certain atlantic gobies and atlantic shrimp host with condys, naturally and may be a better alternative if you're willing to do some research to find out exactly which species form relationships.
Toadstools are not as difficult to keep as well and many clowns easily take to snuggling and sleeping with them as an alternative with little problems.
