Yes they are cheaper. Trying to keep them paired up longterm with clowns may be difficult. Many reefers report them eating their clowns.

Clowns, which come from the pacific, don't host with condys, which come from the atlantic, in the wild but certain atlantic gobies and atlantic shrimp host with condys, naturally and may be a better alternative if you're willing to do some research to find out exactly which species form relationships.

Toadstools are not as difficult to keep as well and many clowns easily take to snuggling and sleeping with them as an alternative with little problems.

BADBOYGATOR: If you want to "learn" how to take care of anemones then maybe a condy is the way to go but IMO they should not be paired up with clowns because the clowns may very well be eaten. Use them as a way to learn how to take care of anemones, without clowns, if anything and when you are successful keeping them healthy longterm trade or sell the condy, get some clowns, and get a BTA.

I would still, however, start out with something like a toadstool before I jump into trying to take care of something like an anemone. Anemones are still harder to take care of than many corals offered for sale in the aquarium trade.

Then...why make that statement? It's true that you never stated condys will not eat clowns...but the OP stated he had two clowns and was looking for an anemone to pair with them and the title of thread asks which anemone to get. Your short term experience with this match could have been taken as a longterm success example.

Wow I just realized something. I have been calling badboygator babygator this whole time. :lol:. Not to mention Skateboarder did too because of me. :lol:

Babygator, once you have thoroughly read those two sites then come back to this thread and tell us your gameplan.

Babygator I agree with 55semireef. Those sites he posted are really helpfull. You need to let your tank age and mature. And more lighting may also be more benificial if you are doing a reef.

*Badboygator, I would let your tank run for a year until you get your first anemone. Upgrade your lighting and start with some easier "corals" such as leathers, mushrooms and polyps. Once you feel comfortable with these you will have more of an understanding to know what its like to care for something that requires stronger lighting in your tank.
