anenomes in a reef

I know its tabu to keep an anenome in a reef but i really wanna try( as stupid as it sounds) and was wondering if anyone had any luck doing this or if i should just give the idea up.

Who said they were taboo? Every tank I have seen anemones in has been a reef tank.
In fact I have 2 in my reef tank. A GBTA and a RTBA. They (and everything else) are doing fine.

What are the specs on your tank?

Ask Toddrtrex. He has carpets in his tanks which are loaded with corals!

Yep. All three of my tanks are reef tanks, and each has at least one Haddoni carpet anemone in them. And in the past I kept LTAs in those tanks. I personally wouldn't keep a rock dwelling anemone in a reef, though some are better then others --- couldn't pay me to do BTAs in a reef tank again. Not because the main anemone moves (( I never had that issue )) but, because the clones move.

My 75 (( the white balance was way off in this shot, but it is my most current )

wow you all had awesome answers... the tank isnt setting up yet but im gonna start easy i have alot of experience with fish only systems but not too much in reef systems, i was planning on getting an LTA and starting with some euphylias and going from there with some montipora frags... i was just worried about the LTA moving thanks for all your answers!!!

Here's pics of my 180 I had running w/ bookend nems, sebae(crispa) on right, LTA on left, so I don't think taboo at all.

I have an eight to ten inch Red Rose Bubble Tip Anemone in the right end my 120 gallon five foot reef tank hosting a breeding pair of Cinnamon clowns since September 2008?

I am expecting delivery of an eight inch Ritteri/Magnificent Anemone tomorrow from Doctors Foster and Smith for my pair of Clarkii clowns in the left side of the tank. The long tentacled from Petco did not do well and shrunk back into the rock work. I expect the 3 1/2 inch Clarkii female and 2 1/2 inch Clarkii male to start hosting as soon as I get the Ritteri attached in a four inch deep and 3 /12 inch wide hole dug in the crushed coral substrate in between the live rocks by the Clarkki clowns. They are homeless like my Cinnamons were a year ago. Hopefully, all will go well with the acclimation process of the Ritteri. I firmly believe the anemones are helped with at least a pair of clowns.

My female Cinnamon is so protective of her RBTA, she bit the back of my hand and drew blood. I have since bought a pair of gloves if needed.

The problem with that is that Ritteris prefer to be on the rocks, at the highest point in the tank to get the most light possible. I would be very shocked if it stayed in that hole that you dug for it.

I know this as I lost a Magnificent Ritteri two summers ago when I did not have air conditioning. It was doing well at the top of the rocks like my RBTA is now situated on the right side of the tank. A severe heat wave wiped it out and I learned a hard lesson. I just want to give it a place to make the safest start with plenty of live rock to climb up as well as more current the higher you go in my tank. I did not want to misinform anyone.

I have read the Bubble Tip and Long Tentacled like the lower half of an aquarium and the Ritteri prefers the upper half?

LTAs (( Macrodactyla doreensis )) are sand dwelling anemones, so they will stay in/on the lowest part of the tank, in the sand.

BTAs (( Entacmaea quadricolor )) are rock dwelling anemones -- most of the time with their foot in a crevice -- will be on the rocks, at what level will depend on the amount of lights and flow.
