Angelfish: Gray Poma & Yellowtail Poma

Crab Rangoon

I have had my sights set on one, or both, of these fish (Chaetodontoplus melanosoma & Chaetodontoplus caeruleopunctatus) for years now, and only got a tank suitable for them in the past year. My problem is that I simply can't seem to find any of either variety. I've got an RSS feed to Divers Den, and check AquaTouch regularly - but still nothing for about a year. Even working at the LFS and skimming the order lists from major wholesalers, I still haven't come across these guys.

Is there a reason for this? I've had Angelfish that were seemingly more "rare" and were certainly a lot more expensive than these varieties, so I was wondering why I can't seem to source them. Alternatively, if somebody knows a reliable source for these, please share!

Chaetodontoplus caeruleopunctatus is a Bluespotted Angel, are you sure that's the one you're looking for? I've never heard of it called a Yellowtail Poma.

I picked up a pair of Juvi Bluespotted Angels about 1 year ago from Blue Zoo on their Collector's Choice TOP 50 section. I haven't seen them available anywhere since then, however.

Chaetodontoplus angels are not the easiest angels to get a hold of i have been waiting since the 1st week of feb for a scribbled and a false personifer to become avaliable to my not so local lfs..pre paid at that and still waiting for thier wholesales to get them in as well as a aussie harliquin tusk

Me too! I missed the first one (poma) on DD last month (been scouting for two years it seems). A week later another one came through and I forgot about it until I got the email. Lo and behold, no snipers! He's in my display eating and being gorgeous. Good luck finding one, I love this little guy.

Wll, they do indeed have blue spots, but they've also got a yellow tail :) Seems like the name varies from site to site, but it is indeed the one I'm looking for - even more-so than the Grey Poma.

Juvi poma on divers den tonight! Ask and ye shall receive.
Ugh, what horrible timing - I should have waited another week or two before asking if the post was going to beckon one to DD! I may have to just perform my waterchange a week early & ready the QT, this little guy is the PERFECT size for what I'm looking for, after all. We'll see if I can pull the trigger on it or not

I checked your homepage to maybe see the tank you were referring to. I assume this is not for the 36x36x27 tank, right?

Live Aquaria and Pet Solutions both had Bluespotted Angel available this morning. I got the notification email from LA around 7:35am central time this morning. I jumped online and checked Pet Solutions, since they had them listed cheaper, and grabbed one. They still had some available. LA has now sold out.

Pet solutions is out now too :(

One of my LFS has gray poma juveniles, but I was afraid to put it in the tank with my singapore/vermiculate angel. I've wanted a blue spot for awhile now... guess I'll just have to keep wanting.

I have been waiting for one for over a year now. I had signed up on the notification list on both sites but only LA notified me of the availibility.

It's been about 2 weeks and I would like to know how's the fish doing? Have pics please post.

Thanks!

i just pick up a beautiful 4" one an hour ago.

anyone have any info or experience on this fish?
is it rather hard to keep?

Kept one for 1.5 years and lost it when my tank got hit with an "Ich" outbreak. :(
I found the fish easy to care for and only moderately aggressive during feeding time. He never bothered the other fish and got along fine with the other dwarf angel (after some initial territorial disputes). He ate mysis, Spectrum pellets, Nutramar Ova, Ocean nutrition Angel and Herbivore foods and just about anything else that hit the water.

Chaetodontoplus chrysocephalus is the true yellow tail poma. Very difficult to keep alive, due to its shy nature. Grey poma's are relatively easy once eating nls pellets.
