Angelfish HLLE

Aside from emperor and koran angels, are there other angels that are commonly suspectable to hlle ?

I mean i can say that i've never seen a 6-bar angel with HLLE, but thats also because i've rarely seen 6-bar angels in the first place.

So for the larger angels, which are the ones that can commonly succumb to hlle ?

Nearly every scaled fish is suspectable to HLLE. You see Emperors and Korans with HLLE due to their popularity over angels, like the 6-bar you mention. That's not to say there's isn't a 'rank' that some angels have more of a tendency to get HLLE.

out of all the fish i've kept, i've had 2 emperor juvs break out in HLLE (otherwise eating healthy).

I've kept a purple tang with no problems though...
Both kept in FO aquarium with carbon.

Alas thats what i was worried about, not the most satisfying answer :D , as I wanted some angels that won't turn out disfigured.

I cant honestly say that i do not know of any fish, angel or not that has absolutly no chance of being disfigured especially when you figure in enviormental, genetics, injuries, collection, shipping and every othe factor possible in the fishes life

Are there any cures to hlle? My healthy 8 inch angel has a hole on her head and how can I help her? I've seen a bluering with hlle...

Here is April 28th. Fish has pit in head.

Here is today:

What changed? Different tank, better water.

so you think it could simply just be water? My nitrates are currenly on the high side (30 ppm), I just left my tank for a month with only someone to feed while I was on vacation. My angel's hole isn't that bad, it just looks like another nostril. I you think if if I control the water he'll heal? tia

My nitrates are blood red in the current tank right now, but was much better, better being 20-40, but that hasn't been the case since April. The head looked like crap back in January, but when I started doing 75% weekly water changes to compensate for a $hitty skimmer, it got better. The live rock got better and it started to nibble off of it. I would try to keep the water good, have nice live rock and I feed spectrum pellets, and selcon soaked shrimp. It doesn't get sponge or nori....not from me at least. I wish I knew what it was, but it worked. Now, if it comes back, I will say it is the water quality since the diet is the same.

From all the anecdotal evidence, nutrition deficiency is prob the most common reason for HLLE. Korans and emperors can have their entire faces deteriorate (both emperors i've kept suffered from that)
