Another 225 Tank Project!

platapus,
Is that egg-crate on the back of the tank? What's the reasoning for it (better circulation, attaching rocks)? Looks interesting.
Sweet overall setup. I like the layout of the stand and tank.

platapus i ran a single becket with a mag 24 it worked well
but when i got an iwaki 70 rlt oh man it works Awesome i to feed heavy & the skimmer keeps up great.
down the road if u might want to try a presure pump IME with becketts they work better with presure pumps u get more out of them so it's a good u have that extra bulkead just in case
:)

Yes, that is black eggcrate siliconed onto the back wall. Im using it for mutiple reason.

1. To help support the LR the will be up against the back wall, I can strap pieces to it if needed.

2. Wont scatch the glass.

3. I like the looks better that the flat glass.

4. Hiding places for little creatures, or whatever.

Perhaps ;) I have no complaints about the performance on the 2400! But it is nice to have that option of switching to a ext pump!

Have you thought a bout a mak-5 to run the dual skimmers i had a mag 24 on my 33" beckett ,i thought iw wasnt enough..
oh well to each his own

By the way excellent job on the tank well done

:D

Do you think that coralline will still cover the back wall with the eggcrate in place? It does look interesting.

I'd like to keep the back wall clean, but I expect it to be impossible as I can't reach all of it. The eggcrate might be an option. I've never seen black in the stores around here, where did you get yours?

Thanks.
Mickey

If I switch pumps for the skimmers it wont be until the whole system is running for a while.

I cant imagine anything that corroline wont grow on. almost the entire back wall of my tank will be covered in rock to the top. I think the eggcrate looks nice when it is covered in growth. I searched for black eggcrate high and low for at least a solid month before I found it. It was in a small industriel lighting store in south san francisco, I was never able to find a place to order it online. This stuff is very hard to find it seems.

Or i think that is correct wait to see how the pump handles the skimmers, i think you will be changing quickly IMO
I had a problem getting the foam up on a 33" jkust couldnt get the right mix.
Oh well maybe i didnt have enough BIo load in there.

Hey there plat try adding a big air pump that you can add to the air wherre the becket s are i found that to be a get MOd to get more bubbles and finer bubbles.

I will have post some pics!

My 2 beckett skimmers work great off my mag 2400.

The air intake is more than I need, I have them choked off, I need silencers for them because of the whistle sound they are making.

A MAG 2400 has an outlet of 1", that would mean that the 33" single beckett you had (was it single?) would of had to have a minimum 1 1/4" down tube to actually pull a decent amount of air. Mose becketts I see have 3/4 inlets, with 1" down tubes, and they work great, but if you ran a MAG 2400 into a 3/4" beckett, you would choke it off and not get all the performance. This has been me exp in building a few skimmers.

yes that coraline ifs going to grow all over it loves acrilic :)
& u are right about the 3/4 outlet platapus IME 2

04/11/04 - Final Phase: Finaly seeing light at the end of the tunnel. I have all everything installed except for the caibet doors and live rock. System is up and running great, The flow in the tank is stong enough to create ripple waves in the sand. I will dial in everything over the nex couple of weeks, skimmers, calcium reactor, top-off. I found a cool device that seems to be handy for keeping aquariums, it is a watch dog leak detection ;). He are some random shoots of the of the whole system.
