Another 225 Tank Project!

hey there man, i am tired of drilling slots for an internal overflow so i gave up and now im going for the eggcrate. well my question is how much flow do you get with your overflow since its basically entirely open. also how high is the waterlevel is inside your overflow. im going to have 2 overflows 10" wide with eggcrate in each corner of an 80g with 1" bulkheads. think it will work

My over flows a 6" x 9" with 2" drains. I wanted to keep the smaller overflow baxes but wanted them to not be a bottle neck for the 2" drains, that is why I had them cut flat, I get way more flow our of a smaller overflow now. The eggcrate give little resistance compared to the slots. Im guessing about 6000 GPH between both overflows . . .. ocording the a chart I read. Seems about right.

If you only have 1" drains, you can getaway with having slots if you want.

That is one monster of a set up. I can tell you've put a tremendous amount of thought into it and it has really paid off. You really have something to be proud of there. =) Amazing.

Plat- It looks like you used 1/4" extruded for the surge tank?

I saw pictures of an RCSD made out of extruded- It exploded on the second or third blow. :) Your surge has far less pressures on it, but the continual changes in pressures could fatigue the joints- Please keep an eye on it for a while.

Yes I did use 1/4" I realized after the fact that It would of been safer to use 3/8". Since it not a display, I reinforced all joints in side and out with weld 16...thick bead, then silicone on top of that. I have been keeping an eye on it ;)

04/20/04: Live Rock Addition: Tank is completely setup and running strong. I ordered 90 lbs of fiji Ultra live rock from reefermadness.us

04/22/04: Live Rock Addition: The new live rock was waiting for me when I go home today. The quality of the rock is excellent, alot of life on it. I got it installed in the tank, so these pics are a little cloudy. My skimmers are going crazy, hope fully the ammonia spike will be small.

Where is the dang drooling smilie?? !!!! Looking Awesome. I love how you have hiden the return like that is against the back wall. It took me a while to find it! The way you have done the rocks on the left, with the canyon, too cool! This is so much better than studying theology...

I see in one of your pictures that you obviously have taken the necessary safety precautions - rubber gloves and silver bullets! I never reef without them.

FREEKIN AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a question how in the world did you get your rock like that on the back wall? And near the overflow? Did you use an exopy?

Let me just say man that tank ROCKS !!!!

Good work. Keep the pictures comeing.

Thanks

Very nice!!!!

Did yuo place egg crate on the back in order to hold up the rocks?

The ggcrate help out alot when rtying to create the wall, the rest is trial and error, like putting together a 3d puzzle, was a little tricky but it all finally locked together! I have 8 large turbo snails that will test the structual engineering out for me ;)
