Another 225 Tank Project!

Looks GREAT! Do you have the rock sitting directly on the sand or do you have some pvc supports or something? What about the wall structure? I know you are using the eggcrate for some support but what about within the structure. Does anything hold one piece to another? Or is it just stacked until stable?

Sorry for all the questions. I'm always nervous stacking rock and I worry about collapse.

Some of the bottom pieces are supported by PVC, but for the most part it is on the sand. I have the rock just stacked, no ties at this point, I spent a lot of time trying to get them to all lock together......so far, so good.

There is room for them to collapse and still not hit the from glass it it was to happen, also, I stacked it larger pieces on the bottom, to smallest on top.

Update: Tank is currently going through a cycle - I all of the new rock and sand is covered in a fast growing orangish algae - If I remeber correctly, I will go though 3 algae blooms befor it settles down.

I will try to get some pics up shortly.

Nice tank!! Good craftsmanship. I have been following the thread for a while now. One question. Where's the purple stuff on the PVC???

Thanks ..... and HUH?

Purple stuff? If you are refering to coralline algae, it hasnt grown yet, if you are refering to the purple glue, I used clear ;)

Looking slick! Quick question ... Are you leaving the lights on while you cycle?? I have mine completely in the dark, the tank is wrapped in towels to keep out the light - hopefully the algae too. i am just going on advice I got from someone.

I have to get some pics going - I just put in 340lbs of LS and ~ 300lbs of Tonga LR. Roll on the 3-4 weeks ... :)

250 lbs of my LR was existing, 100 lbs is new uncured, and the DSB is just starting to develop life......I have the lights on for the cycle since it is going to be somewhat small.... It will be normal to go through at least 3 diferance algae blooms within about a month + IME. It is kinda kewl looking, right now all the new rock, and DSB have a kinda orange algae all over them.....

I think your tank should be tank of the month. It might not have all the corals, inverts etc.. as the usual tanks, but on design and final product you should get the recognition. Its the best designed set up Ive ever seen..........
