Another Rant----Sorry

Oh yeh...and I drove to Mentor a week ago! I was at Progressive waiting and you didn't answer! I haven't called you today, because after I got your phone number, I knew exactly who you were!
 
I did have a couple transactions with aznutty and the one time he stopped over to buy corals I tried to give him a good deal. He never complained about what I gave him and I think he still has all the different zoas I sold him. The second time it was just like he said. He posted several fish for sale but said one wasn't looking healthy. By the time I got them 3 out of 4 were dead. I PM'd him about it and within a few hours he had sent a full refund via Paypal to my account. I do appreciate him making things right and I don't think he intentionally makes deals to make you guys upset.

It is an interesting hobby where people do cut you a HUGE break when you are new. I remember my first couple of frag purchases where the guy would say "you want some of this too... and this and this". All the extras were freebies! I would say that we all try to give great deals to newer guys. When you give the person a good deal because they are new and then those items are for sale for more than you sold it for it does rub ppl wrong.

I know Frost did not set out to make enemies here but continuously buying and selling stuff like that will eventually make someone irritated.

I hope this can all be worked out and I do consider Frost coming on here and saying something about it as a good first step. He is not ignoring the problem like that guy that just got re-banned.

what is your email, i remember i was suppost to meet someone at progressive but couldn't get a hold of them, and when was it last week so i can look at my calender to see what happened, i'm really sorry if you did make a drive and i would drive out to you if you still wanted the rock. the selling thing for three times more, if thats how you feel about me then you should feel the same way about every retail store, every whole seller and just buy directly from the manufactur. the rocks didn't magicaly appear before my eyes, i had to dive two hours to get it in hopes of setting up a new system, and now danny changed his mind so i cant set up nothing what am i suppose to do? ask if ben wants his base rock back? and buying base rock for 1 and selling it for $1.50 or 1.75 is not making much of a profit, just enough to get my gas money back. if you looking at my livestock saleing thread you will see it listed. the two nice peices he sold me is in my display tank.
 
thank you kevin, i never intended to **** people off i just wanted to share the same hobby i thought no one else liked but me. and again, if anyone else feels ripped off or mis treated, i'll be more then willing to make things right. no one wants to be hated or disliked. and heres where i stand. for all of those to has helped me out when i was new, i thank you. this would be my 4th month in this hobby maybe 5th

Frost for one I wasnt attacking you. I was impressed that you did turn around and come backand offer to help take a picture of my frag tank while my camera was MIA. I got angry seeing my rocks in that bin you are now trying to sell for $3.50 a pound. You told me you were trying to get a few more pieces to finish stocking your new tank. Looking at those 3 bins says you are looking to do more than stock a tank. I gave you a great deal on those rocks to help you out as you seemed like a good guy and you said you didnt have much cash. I dont have a issue with you buying and selling items on here as everyone knows I buy and sell on here all the time as well, but I dont buy for less and mark it up for a profit. I feel that is wrong and not doing our club any favors.


I just now re-read your posts. Your problem isn't selling what you have to help with the cost of the hobby as we all do the same. It's when you buy it for a cheap price or even get it for free and turn around and sell it for a higher price to make a profit on something you got a deal on Angers people. You also stated I only sold you 2 nice pieces of rock and the rest was base which is complete BS!!!!!!! Many people have been to my house and seen that tank up and could vouch that you didnt get just 2 pieces of nice rock. I have also drove to BFE to pick items up and didnt feel I needed to profit off others because of it!!!!!!

Also just for the record I was NOT in any way comparing you to the guy that was banned (JL) as your are not him. I am just staying cool it with buying our stuff and then selling it for profit. That is wrong!!!!!!!!!!

and i was ben trying to stock out a 125 for my cusin danny but he lives in the same house as i with my newphew and her now ex husband. the stated a divorce and theres now place to put the 125. i don't even know where i'm going to live yet after this month is over! i'm sorry that your angry, i was too when i was told i had to find a place to live because he's claiming bankursy.. the honey comb pice and the large flat one is in my display sitting pretty and most of the red base rock is in the bin for 1.75. there might be one or two peices in the bin marked for $3. but its all i have left to try to make an extra dollar to save for a sercuity deposit for an apartment somewhere. i'm three months behind on most of my bills and looking at my 75g wishing i won't have to tear it down as well. my life right not sucks because of all bad decistions my neice made and i'm trying to keep the things i have. karma, what did i do to lose everything? if she decises to sell the nail salon as well then i will also be out of a job. i never wanted to tell anyone my story because i always try to stay positive and look for a way to deal with the problem. now i'm stuck and the way it looks, selling everything i have trying to make a little to survive is my current only option. you guys see that pretty car i drive when i come to your places to pick up rock or coral. it's being taking back by the bank if i lose my job. ive been late for every payment and with the economy the way it is, no one seems to want to get their nails done anymore. my income there even has been cut to a third. so why do i buy and sell so much you ask? know you know and i hope your happy.. kristin if you want to come pick up the rock you can for free, just take a picture of the sign out front of my neice house when you come by...
 
Frost for that I am truely sorry to hear. I would not wish that upon anyone except maybe one person (my ex-wife). I will gladly help you in any way as I would for anyone in the club. Again my issue was about getting deals from people on here and sold for a profit in my opinion that should not be done to any club members no matter what it is. Again I was not trying to attack you in this post just merely telling you to STOP as it is irratating many people on here.
 
ben, your a great guy and you deserve more then what you get and i know what i was doing was for my personal issues and did not wish to harm anyone or irratate anyone. its fine if anyone still feels the way they do towards me. i can't make everyone happy but i can try if anyone is willing to let me. i will always buy from this club because it is a nice place to hang around nice people and talk coral. and it's always a choice to buy from me. what ever you do, it's always your choice.
 
I have a much different spin on this....if you sold something, it is not yours. PERIOD what the next person does with it is none of anyones business. PERIOD. The only exception is if they are being dishonest. If they claim A and sell B then one has an obligation to speak up. If they claim A and sell A I don't see if it is anyones business. If some feels offended, they have the right to not sell to the person again. If i drive an hour and buy something at the asking price. keep it for a month, frag it, and sell the rest for $10 more I didn't "rip amybody off". if they agree to pay and I provide what I advertized, I'd say everybody is happy. The MODs may have a different take because of their selling policies, but the only foul I see is calling someone out. My .02

As for AZ, I will say that I bought zoos from him. I drove to mentor to pick up, and he spend 15 minutes chasing a bristle worm off of the frag he sold me. In addition, it had more polyps than represented in the post that he didn't charge me for them.
 
The worst part about it is it will get to a point where no one wants to help anyone except people they know personaly. If I would have done a little research on it I would have never let you beat me up on the rest of the stuff I had in my fuge. I got a huge deal on the stuff and made no quawms about telling the seller i was gonna resell most of it. That being said I would have much rather "gave" it to a newb to help promote the hobby then "sell" it dirt cheep just for some one else to resell. If it weren't for the giving people here and in the club, I know my tank would be no where near as nice as it is. I would also say that there is no ones tank that hasn't benifited from some one elses kindness and good will to help extend the hobby. Taking advantage of peoples kindness will only make them gun shy, reluctant to help others. Effectivly stifling the hobby, and promoting the semi myth that it's a outlandishly expensive hobby out of reach of mear mortals.
 
Wow Pescado sorry thats how you feel. Expected though as we live in a world that seems to be out for number 1. Making money on your friends or fellow club members by marking up items you got for a deal is wrong in my opinion. I see you have 76 posts, so maybe when you are in the club a bit longer and get to know more people you wont feel the same way PERIOD!!!

Also Pescado if you feel me calling someone out in here is wrong. Then I can make sure you are the last to know next time. Nobody enjoys being taken advantage of or ripped off. Many of us and especially the newbies rely on the more experienced ones in this hobby for help. Most would appreciate the heads up as I was offering. Again when you get to know more of us you may not feel this way.


Frost thanks for at least explaining yourself. Again I wasn't trying to attack you. I again in NO WAY was comparing to my call out on Jim Leyland. He needs to be kept banned off this site and out of our clubs.

It think this is an issue of intent and etiquette. No one begrudges an individual the right to sell items to recoup/defray the cost of this money draining hobby. As a group we try our best to help those starting out to kick start them in the hobby and "pay it forward" as a lot of individuals did for us. I understand Ben's frustration as he was doing a favor. In the end, an individual does have the right to sell what is theirs for whatever they want. However, this right does come at a cost. The minute profit becomes the motive the less likely most of us that have been around will be willing to help out in the future. Personally, I would be pretty ticked if the same had happened to me.

I believe fellow reefers (especially local) should be viewed as an invaluable resource that can really help you out in a pinch. They are not, however, a means to turn an opportunistic buck, especially if you intend to be a long standing member of the reef community. Does that mean you can never turn a profit such as fragging a coral on occasion? Of course not. However, when a trend begins to develop, I would suggest caution.
 
markviiisvt4, most of the stuff i'm selling that i got from you is less then what you charged me for. theres only two things im asking more for and that is that brown digi and green singulara. the singulara was all that i really wanted but you wanted everything gone asap so you can have your fuge back. you've gotten burned a few times because no one showed up to pay up for what you offered and i did...
 
Easy now guys and girls ,,,we all see how people feel about this ,,anyone who knows the way Ben Rolls they know hes one of the best when it come to "helping club and Reef Central Members" out for their own PERSONAL tanks ,,,that's why his stuff is priced the way it is, that's why he takes time to drive across 2 counties to help people move stuff. when he could be spending it with his 267 kids and the wife. He is cool as hell and has a point !!! I myself will give you the shirt off my back if you cannot afford one to keep warm , but if you take it from me and turn around and sell it to make a profit right in front of me ,,, we WILL have a problem very fast. the ones who are out for the profit ,,go to another forum , this forum on RC and C-SEA don't roll that that . there is no room for you in the business of being friends ,,, this weekend alone i gave away , pom pom , sinulara , zoas, anemones , kenya tree , ,,for free ,,,didn't get a thing in return but a few thank you very much comments , it was all given to me for free and when it grows out ill give it away for free !!!!! thats how it should be ,,not to make a profit on anyone ,,,keep it personal not business or profit,,, ill post some more free stuff when it all grows back

IMO frost is a great guy i have bought and sold 4 or 5 times with him and i have always been happy. I met him off of craigs list when i started and he gave me some great deals. I think hes a stand up guy. I do understand peoples feeling for selling something cheap and then seeing it resold for much more but i dont think those were frostys intentions IMO of course. Frost sorry to hear about your predicament i been there done that it sucks i almost lost my house last year because the economy sucks and no ones buying sprinkler systems. BTW i bought 2 nice frags off him at the last meeting for 15 bucks which i would have paid 3o plus tax for at the LFS.
 
LOL on a side note i better not see any pink birdsnest for sale here from the guys i gave it to at the last meeting, but if you can sell it for 10 or 20 bucks to buy chemicals or something else thats going to benefit your tank feel free to do so just dont use the money to line your pockets. I gave it away cause it was given to me and i almost tried to sell some but felt guilty about it, although i would have put the profits right back into my tank. I think thats pretty much the whole moral of this thread.
