I'd watch the NO3 level closely. Removing the Aqau Medic will remove a significant organic carbon source , surface area as well as a hypoxic area as I understand that unit. You may need to compensate for that with additional vinengar etc. I don't know what the deniballs contain for a carbon source ,so, it's possible some different bacteria may be invovled if it's a complex carbohydrate vs acetic acid.
