anti-fight technique: fishy mayhem

You know how fish disappear when they see a net. Well, if you're having trouble with skirmishes with the addition of a new fish, try dropping every net you've got handy onto the rockwork, and leaving it there for a few days, particularly creating shelter where the new guy is holed up.

Kinda puts a damper on rushing about and provides a little less confidence on the part of the aggressor. If you can get the skirmishers to get through a couple of days of armed standoff this way, you can then remove the nets and hope for relative quiet.

I have a Gyre for motion. You put them in business end down on the sandbed and prop the handles where you can. These are 5" plus nets and they don't blow in this current, so I wouldn't expect them to blow in general.

Fish just know 'something's up' when the nets appear, and they've experienced them, so their little minds are on 'net' instead of 'fight.'

This technique can cool off a large dominant fish during the introduction of more fish to his environment...if they have the sense to stay low too and not flit about like targets, it can work. New dawn, new world to a duck---or a fish. If he wakes up with more fish in his tank, he may think they've been there a while. OTOH, leave the big nets as part of the decor for a week, until he's really gotten used to the new guys.
