Any Acrylic tank builders in buffalo/rochester?

I believe you should look elsewhere.
I know of no acrylic aquarium builders in upstate New York.

'Miracles' (in Toronto) would be the closest reputable acrylic aquarium builder to us. There are others in Ohio.

Acrylic sumps are another story- there are plenty of acrylic sump builders around here.

Wow really? I seen a few on craigslist over the past few years advertising huh maybe they closed shop :(

Speaking from my own experience: I wouldn't wish an acrylic tank on my worst enemy. Yes, you can buff out scratches, but it's a PITA and the aquarium ends up getting scratched if someone so much as farts near it. Not to mention the fact that you will end up with coralline along the bottom inch of the viewing panels. UGH.

The ONLY advantage that acrylic has IMO, is its light weight. I was able to handle an 8 foot tank by myself when I was drilling it and getting it in position.

That was the last time I was glad that I got an acrylic aquarium. Gary had warned me, but I didn't listen. The deal that I got on the aquarium, stand, and canopy was too good to pass up for my particular situation. I would not go out seeking an acrylic aquarium. Ever.

wow- thanks for being so bluntly honest, Scott.

Here's another tip for everyone: purchase aquariums built by reputable aquarium builders!

In fact, there are acrylic and glass aquarium builders in upstate NY. I've seen some of their masterpieces. Some of them are really scary.
Stick with a proven aquarium builder. JMO.

If I had to do it again, I probably would, but ONLY because the great deal I got allowed me purchase the materials to set up the broodstock system and other goodies (like the AC3 and calcium reactor).

Folks who have viewed the web cam or have seen the school aquarium in person may be thinking, "Wait a minute- He doesn't have any coralline on the acrylic. What the heck is he talking about?!?!"

Here's my dirty little secret: I use a razor blade to clean the acrylic.:eek2::eek2:

Since the tank was scratched to begin with, I took a chance by very carefully scraping coralline with a regular razor blade attached to a PVC handle.

Has this sped up my maintenance routine dramatically? Yes.

Would I ever try this on a brand new expensive acrylic aquarium? Hell no.:blown:

millie has a decent shop in the basement of caribean forest(roc) i know of someone who's very happy with the large frag tank she made him. not sure what size tank your looking at getting. for smaller tanks i'd give them a call.

Hmmm will have to think this through :) Thanks

Gary you can be bluntly honest with me :frog:and thanks :)

i'd can't speak for cf, your asking for a lot. i'd do lot's of research, and would be really surprised if that was your final answer for a tank.

I've done quite a bit, Im not really happy with the 6' long. I knew I wouldn't be when I was looking for the 8 foot last year but I settled because cash was tight.
I belong to another forum Don't know if I can link it here but has something to do with monster "Hint" anyhow know of a few people who purchased acrylic tanks outside of NY and had them custom made and are still happy with them "besides the scratches" In fact a guy on RC custom made his own 10 foot acrylic tank and it is beautiful but I do agree they scratch very easy sometimes bow ect... I would never consider doing any Diy myself And acrylic in my situation is the way to go because of weight and size I'm looking for but I am not saying I wouldnt go with glass but on that same note
I do not know if my floor can support that much weight? Lots to consider :(

Reason I'm looking to upgrade is because I have wanted a certain marine species "Don't ask" lol since I started SW and have yet to get one because My tank has always and still is to small in my opinion.

So as of right now I'm just looking to get some prices for the tank not jumping the gun on anything yet nor am I saying acrylic is the way I will go for sure, but just trying to see what it would cost but yes 10' is the minimum I would want to go length wise.

There were a couple monster 10' tanks in the for sale forum that never seemed to sell that were more than worth the additional shipping cost. For something that big Iwouldn't trust anyone but the best builders. besides 10-12' length what height and depth are you looking at? anything over 8' is either special order acrylic or jointed and buffed, which taked crazy skills to get bubble free and clean.

I know you said don't ask, but....
I just can't help myself! What do you want???
I'll accept a pm if you don't want to post :) :)
