Thanks
Shawna-
Are you looking for a sump, or a display tank?
I believe you should look elsewhere.
I know of no acrylic aquarium builders in upstate New York.
'Miracles' (in Toronto) would be the closest reputable acrylic aquarium builder to us. There are others in Ohio.
Acrylic sumps are another story- there are plenty of acrylic sump builders around here.
Any reason why you are seeking an acrylic DT... they aren't as popular for a reason, you know.
Speaking from my own experience: I wouldn't wish an acrylic tank on my worst enemy. Yes, you can buff out scratches, but it's a PITA and the aquarium ends up getting scratched if someone so much as farts near it. Not to mention the fact that you will end up with coralline along the bottom inch of the viewing panels. UGH.
The ONLY advantage that acrylic has IMO, is its light weight. I was able to handle an 8 foot tank by myself when I was drilling it and getting it in position.
That was the last time I was glad that I got an acrylic aquarium. Gary had warned me, but I didn't listen. The deal that I got on the aquarium, stand, and canopy was too good to pass up for my particular situation. I would not go out seeking an acrylic aquarium. Ever.
wow- thanks for being so bluntly honest, Scott.
Here's another tip for everyone: purchase aquariums built by reputable aquarium builders!
In fact, there are acrylic and glass aquarium builders in upstate NY. I've seen some of their masterpieces. Some of them are really scary.
Stick with a proven aquarium builder. JMO.
millie has a decent shop in the basement of caribean forest(roc) i know of someone who's very happy with the large frag tank she made him. not sure what size tank your looking at getting. for smaller tanks i'd give them a call.
i'd can't speak for cf, your asking for a lot. i'd do lot's of research, and would be really surprised if that was your final answer for a tank.
Reason I'm looking to upgrade is because I have wanted a certain marine species "Don't ask" lol since I started SW and have yet to get one because My tank has always and still is to small in my opinion.
