In Memoriam
last week I put a post about my new 'nem - it's been in my house about 3 weeks now, 2 weeks in a QT, the last week in the main display. the first week all looked good except he wasn't eating. 2nd - 3rd week he started contracting and expanding, at first every other day, now several times a day. I also started noticing that the mouth wasn't always tight - sometimes it was, others it seemed very loose. today he started contracting during full lighting - not good. On closer examination today, I found to my surprise that when looking from the top, you can see completely through the mouth to the rock on the other side - I'm assuming this is not good. from the bottom, it looks a bit jagged, so I'm guessing that it was ripped from its rock when it was first caught. My question is, has he been mortally wounded and just doesn't know it yet? I've heard of some 'nems in great conditions that have a severe trauma put to them and recovering, but this seems a bit over the top. BTW, is it unusual that it "appeared" sound for a week before showing signs that there was a problem?
this first pix is from the top - its hard to see, but the darkness in the middle of the mouth is actually the rock behind it.
this second pic is from the bottom - notice you can see the green tips of the 'nem through the hole in the middle.
