any electricians in the club?

As some of you know i am planning a 180 in-wall build.

I was thinking that it would be wise to probably run 2 dedicated circuits to the equipment room, since currently that circuit is shared by two rooms. What do you think, is it necessary?

Please let me know if you are an electrician so i can pick your brain and possibly hire you for the job.

Just look at my pitiful "death of a tank" thread. Get at least one dedicated circuit, two would be best.

I paid $125 for an electrician to run a dedicated circuit. Not sure if thats high or low, but I'm wishing I would have had two :)

yeah, If I didn't rent, was doing a bigger tank, and had a dedicated fish room, definitely do at least two dedicated circuits with GFIs in most outlets and Arc-Fault breakers.

I think I have 6 or 8 in my big tank. How hard will it be to run the wire from the room to the panel and look at your panel and see if you have room for it. Putting a new line in is not hard but you need to be careful as it could be a shocking experience. :)

I have some experience in the remodeling field and could guide you Thur adding dedicated lines if you have room in your panel. Technically you need a permit and a licenced electrician but if you do it yourself theirs not much they can do to you! It's easy if you have the right access from your panel, if not it can get tricky. Hope this helps

I know that arc-fault breakers have been improving and I believe they are also part of the current electrical code, so maybe this isn't an issue anymore, but as I understood it they are a risky proposition for using on reef tanks because they have a tendency to false trip in response to "normal arcs" (e.g., if your lights are timed and the switch has a small arc as it opens/closes).

Am I wrong?

Last I talked to my Dad about them he said they were great for preventing fires but that they've been having a lot of problems with people and the circuits that their fridges/freezers are on getting turned off and ruining a bunch of food... same principle would easily apply to reef tanks...
