Any experience with Blue Line Angelfish? Chaetodontoplus septentrionalis

Formalin and freshwater baths have been known to help. Ultimately, the best solution is a hyposaline environment with copper. At least, that's what works for me.

WOW! one of my LFS got one of these guys in today and theyare BEAUTIFUL! He also had 2 anularis angels but I think these are color is brighter and better patterns! AMAZING fish! If I had a large enough tank(and an extra 220$)!! Good luck to you guys who have these...lets see some more pics!

I am getting one on the 29th and will be sure to post some pics after it is adjusted... I think it's around 4-5", getting it from phishybusiness.

Marrone- yes, they are a seasonal type of fish...when they come in (1-4 times a year), most everyone will get them in...

They generally get a number of them in....

I hope a lot them make it as there are people out they who just want a rare fish and grab anything that comes along, even if it's hard to keep. Most of the time when this happens you have high death rates.

most sites, like liveaquaria and phishybusiness ship healthy/eating specimens...

i know Sedar @ phishybusiness will quaratine all his new fish for 2 weeks atleast sometimes more, makes sure they are eating and healhy...

that's why i choose to do my business with him (have othe angels from him, like one in avator) and all are healthy when they come in....

it all depends on where the fish comes from, most vendors will get healthy fish in...

All it takes is one fish, carrying some thing, and have that fish enter the system where all the fish are kept to contaimate all the other fish.

I've seen this time and time again where shippments have come in and one or two fish may have some thing and all of a sudden there is an outbreak in the LFS system. It usually will hit all the LFS in the area at the same time as they're getting the fish from the same sources.

I'm sure that all vendors want to get in nothing but healthy fish but it usually dosen't happen. So you do need to be very careful with what you get and just because it's eating doesn' mean it's going to make it or is completely healthy. It does help to have a good source but you still need to be careful. There is a thread recently, I think the guy was up in Boston, where he didn't QT his fish and he had flukes all over the places and because of the size of the tank it was a nightmare trying to get rid of them.

By the way it's funny about liveaquaria as from my our experiences, a # of group buys done from people by me, the quaility of their fish hasn't been that good, a lot of deaths. I do see a lot of other people have better results though.

Never said eaing=healthy, i said eating and healthy.

There are many ways to "skin a cat", some people do it this way, other do it that way....

No way is wrong, just what that individual feels most comfortable with.

I feel better buying my fish from Sedar, he has healthy fish, no disease, and they eat for me.

I have never bought fish from liveaquaria, just read most things about them...from what i have read, most people have been happy with them...

Not to say a bad fish couldn't come in once in awhile, but most places will not willing sell an unhleathly fish....

I have recieved many fish from Sedar, so far the fish have been in great health....

personally if a quaratine tank consist of a 40 gallon tank with PVC fittings and you throw a large angel in there it will not be happy and stress it more.....Now if it consist of a 70+ gallon tank with live rock for it to pick off of, places to hide, and dim lighting then i think that is the best way; you can control what the fish is eating, watch it for disease and it will slowly get used to you. Now i know you cannot treat a tank with medication that has LR in it...but i feel that if you provide the proper type of quaratine it is better in the long run...

If a quaratine tank is a 40 gallon with PVC fittings, then i think it has a better chance in the display..

again this is my methodiology, not saying it's right or wrong...

Lets face it the bigger the QT the better, in most situtations, and the better setup in the QT makes it even better.

The real problem is a lot of people have just bypassed the QT process altogether. Some times because they don't have the space to QT or because they think the fish is coming for a good source, like Phisy Business. In both situtions this is not a good thing and leaves yourself open to real problems that could come about. Remember all it takes is one sick fish that mayn't be showing anything at the moment to cause major problems in your tank and even the best places do get sick fish from time to time that manager to get into people tanks.

Unfortunily there are a lot of horror story of fish not being QT, time and method not withstanding here, and the problems that they caused in people tanks.

I am just wondering, a friend of mine just got one of these BEAUTIFUL guys at the LFS and currently has a FOWLR and is considering going to a reef. What corals do you keep with these fish if any? He is interested in softies mostly and maybe a few sps...I know its a hit or miss but just wondering what others have had success with! Thanks

I've had a blue line for about a year. He was pretty shy for the first couple months. He eats pretty much anything you offer him. If you go close the the glass he'll come offer and try to whack you with his tail.
I got him at themarinecenter

Tremelle, how's the BlueLine doing? Also, what does a juvie look like? Are they the same but just small or dark blue with white lines like many other juvie angels?

He's in a 200 gallon tank with liverock and a harem of lineatus wrasse.
I haven't put any corals in yet but would like to soon.

Nexdog, it is going great. The Chyrsurus stopped bothering it after about 3 days. It swims around with the Blonde Naso Tang. It eats anything that hits the water. It has not bothered any of the leathers or mushrooms. It is not shy at all. It stays out front and swims mid level to the top when a person walks by the tank. I will get a couple of pics tomorrow when the lights are back on.
