i just got a nanocube (12 gal) that i'll be transferring my current tank into and selling the rest. my current tank has a euroreef skimmer, and i'm kinda lazy with water changes.

is this sapphire skimmer like the current fission skimmer? cause the latter SUCKED!!

does it actually skim? or just collect tankwawter in the collection cup? does it let microbubbles in the tank or no? is it efficient? once set up, do i have to monitor for water levels (even if it goes into the chamber that has a constant level)??

i really wanna know before i spend 110 bux on it.

I just got it. It didn't skim anything yet as I just hooked it up yesterday. No microbubbles so far. It's pretty quiet. I have a Resun DMS-400 which is different from the nanocube so I had to prop it up higher and cut the cover. But with the nanocube I don't think you need to. So far I read that this and the Tunze nano are the good ones. I have the Tunze nano on my 20g tanks and they work good. Those would not fit on my 12g tank even if I cut the chambers. I just have a different style nano cube.

I have had my sapphire in my 12DX since it first came out about 6 months ago, it will take awhile to get it set just right and know what height you need to set the collection cup at but when it is set it does skim. I always get cups full of yellowish skimate not the dark tea stuff you see pulled from the big tanks, but I have 3 fish in my cube and haven't seen my nitrates over 0 since the tank was new. I like it but I paid $70 for mine not the $100+ they go for now

this is all the pics i have of now.

Not shown but I cleaned up the edges and ran a rubber lining on the edges. I cut the front more so I could see the collection cup better. Well actually I miscalculated the hole but it worked out for the better. I don't think you will need to cut your cover as my tank is different.

I have a 24 nano and was one of the first ones to buy the sapphire skimmer. Once you get the collection cup just right you should be skimming like crazy. I clean out my cup every three days when it fills with dark yellow water. The microbubbles should go away in a couple of days. Sorry to hear about the price going up, but I guess you get what you pay for. A++ in my book.:smokin:

Will these function in a sump. Does it have to have a specific water level, where is the output I cannot tell from any of the picture I see....bals
