Any hardcore SPS people in NW OH?

Recently started up a tank after a few years away from the hobby and wondered if anyone in the Toledo (or anywhere else nearby) area is really into sps? Seems like everyone with cool stuff I've run across are up in MI or farther east towards Cleveland.

I'm mainly interested in Montiporas (I think I'm close to 60 diff montis now) but have a few Tubipora and Clavularia for lower light areas. And a handful of acros.

So anyone else into sps?

Not much to look at right now, should be nice once all the frags grow out though.

Jeff-I mostly just have frags at this point, gave Tim some odds and ends that I had extra of. The pink rim purple polyp "cap" and the green "aequituberculata" I could probably spare, but I'd prefer to grow everything out a bit more first. I just cut all those green frags last week and they are barely healed, so I'd like to see how they adjust to my prop tank first. Don't worry, there will be plenty to share in the future :) I just really started to acquire stuff in Nov...I think I've spent a couple $k on frags since then :eek2: Seems like corals got way more expensive and way smaller than the last time I was in this hobby...colors got nicer too though!

I have a short wishlist left that I'm still looking for. If you pick up any of these I'd happily trade a frag of almost anything i have for them. Unfortunately all are $100+/frag

bigfoot monti - coral oasis
pink sandollar monti - atlantis/fragfarmer
montipora foveolata - atlantis
orenji - unarce and a handful of others in CA

wouldn't mind the reverse sunset too

I'll definitely let you know when I have frags available...anything in particular you're looking for?

Tim - thanks again for the frag and the generator! Great deal! I mounted that frag in my display tank...I dig the shape. Hoping it colors up under the HQI.

therman what is that in the center of the first picture (the red thing)? Also, you may want to get the aiptasia under control before they do a number on you nice new frags.

If you're referring to the fuzzy thing, its an annoying red macroalgae that came on the rocks. I need a rental tang. I've manually removed a lot of it, and kalked most of the aiptasia since that photo was taken.

You're not going to keep any fish in it?

I don't really like the hassle of fish unless they take care of themselves. I have a goby/pistol pair and a tailspot blenny that eats algae, but I probably won't add any more. Possibly mandarins, since they feed themselves too.

Fish just detract from the corals :)

Well it's going to take a few years for your corals to grow out. I personally wouldn't have a reef If I wasn't going to keep fish. It's just as challenging to keep fish alive and heathy for extended periods of time as to keeping corals.
Those fish are my pets and they also can distinguish me from another person.

Yeah, I've kept my fair share of fish. But after feeding hungry mouths and trying to breed all sorts of other aquatic creatures all day long for my day job, I'm ready for something that takes care of itself :) Its nice to come home to a bunch of pretty corals that do their own thing and are happier if you don't mess with them. Plus they produce frags exponentially and if you're lucky pay for their upkeep in the long run.

I'd say its far MORE challenging to keep marine fish, given that the vast majority are difficult if not virtually impossible to reproduce in captivity. Not trying to suggest that keeping fish isn't cool and fun, because it certainly is...it's just not my goal in a reef tank at this point.

I'm turning into quite the SPS fan. My likes tend to be more toward the Monti Caps but still will entertain just about any other kind.

Right now I only have a couple SPS as I'm building a roughly 110g frag vat for nothing but LPS/SPS. All I have now is a orange Monti Cap, pink Pocci, and pink Birdsnest but have a couple others (like Purple Haze Monti) saved back for me.

Always on the look out for new frags too. Kind of hard to find nice SPS frags that aren't the run of the mill type stuff sometimes.
