Dipping a coral, this guy crawled away, but did not die.

Any ideas? He's about an inch or so long.

its a chiton most likely.

At least thats what it looks like. If it is, its perfectly safe.

Does it appear to have plates across its back?

alternately it could be some kind of sea slug/cucumber.

P.

I'll have to check on the plates when I get home.
sounds like good sump material.
Thanks for the link

If its a chiton, I have several in my tank.

Are they this red/orange color?

"It's a leaf."

well, because of the heat and lack of rain, does resemble my dying tree leaves

I got it it is a Chiton!!! Whoops like I said what paul and chris said! LOL.......

Very cool creatures for sure. They remind me of something from star wars or for you younger peeps something from Harry Potter!

Back when I was doing tank maintance on an old bosses tank, I ran across my first chiton. scared the crap outta me. this thing was huge!

mine are "fuzzy" and ccome from Florida. Basically the fuzz is an algea that grows on them to camouflage. They are more of a cream and green color. They can really stick themselves down to what ever they are on for sure. be carefull trying to remove them, you can use a credit card to scrape them off. I picked mine up at www.reefcleaners.org if you want alook.

well,
it's all speculation at this point.
Got home pretty late. This guy had cralled out of a bucket over 9 in tall with less than 2 in of water.

Unless he shows back up in the bucket.....

Ok, little more info and couple pics.
Soft to the touch, like an earthworm.
Sticks to container very well,
Changes shapes as it moves or when I mess with it.

Google search for different types of didn't get me any ideas yet.
Has an obvious front end, right side in top pick.

Bottom pic is little blurry. Lil' bugger didn't understand being still for the camera:
