Just wondering. The ICK treatments listed are 3 yrs old and I was wondering if anyone has any newer info on treatng ick in a reef tank? I know the older ones work but was wondering if anyone had any good or bad experiences with any of the newer ick treatments for the entire reef tank that might be out there? or are they all just "snake oil " products..

I think there has been quite the discussion in the reef forum or the reef fish forum about Kick ich.

I personally think the bottle cures are not effective.

I have read all the information on Ick and the different treatments for it here, Reef Central and the internet but have a question that I have not seen addressed. If you have a reef tank with a lot of live rock, corals and inverts, what do you do when removal of your fish to a QT is not an option?

I have seen several pictures of member’s tanks here and there would be no possible way to remove all of the fish from some of those tanks. Everyone seems to say that you have to remove all of the fish and let the tank go fallow for 6-8 weeks but this simply can not be an option for everyone. If you can’t get all the fish out and can’t use copper to treat the problem, what do you do? Is it possible to do anything at all? Is it possible for the Ick to “run its course” and have the fish fight it off if they are otherwise healthy and eating well?

Since I am pretty new to all this I was curious about this issue and how to address it. And before everyone says it, I know that everything should be quarantined before it goes in the main display tank, but even after taking that precaution someone has to have experienced an outbreak of Ick. (Or maybe it’s not possible as long as you QT first, I don’t know)

You put everything in QT first and kill the ich there and then you don't have to worry about removing everything from the main display when ich takes hold and starts killing all the fish.

Hi SteveM10,

well, personally I do not think there is never a possibility of removing all the fish, sometimes it is just a lot of work and hard. A qucik drain of you tank that enables to catch the fish is one idea. It doesn't take that long, but its a lot of work.

there are a lot of people that have a lot fo fish, hopefully like freed said they will be healthy before they go into the main tank. Then there is no worry.

Kinda like everything else, dipping corals that you can for parasites, I have seen pics here of corals being dipped and there were tons of nudis on a small frag; the bad kind. Red bugs esc..

prevention is key.
