any of these fish at the bay area LFS?

I got a Hawaiian anthias a few months ago from Connies. It's trucking along with no problems. Still my favorite anthias are Bartletts. They aren't the prettiest, but they are extra hardy and pretty passive. They'll eat anything and didn't need to be fed as often.. I think they'll eat hot dogs and bologna if you let them.

There is/was one at Ultimate Aquarium you might want to call them. It might still be there.

so i decided to check out the fish at ultimate. it looked pretty healthy and was eating frozen food. the hunt for the yellow belly has now ended..:D

What's up fellas... Here's a couple of shots showing my powder blue/goldrim hybrid... keep in mind like most hybrids each of these fish is an individual that shows different combos of traits from each species... mine is a good mix of each... giving it what I call the "wife test", most regular people would think a straight up powder blue is nicer looking...

Here's a shot of an achilles/goldrim hybrid that comes out of Hawaii... achilles and powder blues do not overlap or hybridize... this is not my fish... but it's sweet...

Another one that doesn't pass the wife test is my yellow variant Zebrasoma scopas... another one where each are individuals... this specimen was a beauty and I call him my poor man's gem tang (or rich man's ugly yellow tang looking at it from my wife's perspective!):D

Now to my real question... how often and at what price have you seen hot tomatoes out west there? When's the last time you've seen them?

Thanks fellas...

... hey John, you need to update your website link. I don't think all those fish are in a 65g, right? Your moorish, does he bother any of your corals or other inverts? Beautiful tank and fish.

I don't really have a website for my new system (I say new, but it's been about a year and a half since the move to the new house), so I leave it like that. The idol has since been yanked after tearing into an A. prostrata repeatedly... it wasn't picking, it was EATING, after being established in the system for a long time too. It was independent of my feeding... I gutloaded him with food and still he went to this one coral that was and is now completely healthy. Many angels and butterflies that are otherwise safe with sps will pick on stressed or dieing sps colonies, yet this was not the case here. Thanks for the kind words...

The ones i saw were from Easter Island

I should rephrase my question... hotumatuas are endemic to Easter Island and from relatively shallow water... thus the price... I meant where are they travelling through in their shipment from the island... direct, or are they being wholesaled from a place in Hawaii?

Thanks ROAB... I'll trade you one of these guys for a hot tomato! :)

HAHA. When i read the question, i was thinking, that would be far for the fish to travel but not entirely out of the question. The ones that i ran across were single ones from collectors and i did not know their particular sources. Funny how rare these fish are but yet everyone seems to have a "hook up." But i guess if the price is right, anyone can get one.

It used to be my favorite fish, but id love to get my hands on a Interruptus.

So I went to LA and visited the wholesalers this week.... picked up 25 dispar anthias, 2 butterflies, a small Achilles tang, a group of multibanded pipefish, a pair of helfricki's, a true mystery wrasse, and a longnosed hawk. Overall a nice collection of fish. Now I just need a hotu.

Thanks to Hugo for taking me around LA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You guys in SoCal definitely need to visit his shop in Westminster!

Kris,

What day did you go. Hugo rocks. He's the best. I finally got my tank back home today. What a pain. :( :)

I need to come back and bother Hugo in the next few weeks.

Thanks Alex. Wait til it all grows in!

I went on Wednesday, all the corals are always cherry picked so I think it just matter what days the different companies get fish.
