Been Reefin'
Just trying to see what I want. I have vho and pc. What do all of you recommend?

Thanks,
Kyle

Hi Kyle,

It's hard to give you the right advice without knowing more about your tank such as size, volume, inhabitants, age, stability, paremeters and more info about your lighting (wattage, distance from water surface).

Yeah I guess you need the specs huh;)

Well it's a 100g 60x20x20, I have a 30 gallon sump/20g refugium or so. The lighting is 440w vho 2act. 2white, and 220w of pc 2act 55w, and 2 white 55w. The lights are about 6" from the top of the water. In the tank I have lps, leathers, shrooms, zoos, rics, etc. and the usual snails and crabs. Water parameters stay about perfect am. 0, nitrate 0, nitrite 0, ph 8.2, salinity 35, spec grav. 1.025, calcium 400-450ppm, alk 11. The tank has been set up for clos to 9 months. I have about 150lbs of live rock give or take a few lbs, and about 100lbs of ls.

Anything else you need to know just tell me!

Thanks for the reply,
Kyle

Croceas and squamossa's will do very nicely in that setup.Croceas and Maximas don't do well under PC's or VHO.They will fade.

Thanks rothie for the upper:D , but you did mean derasa and squamosa right, yeah i dont think i am goin to try a maxima or crocea until mh's. what about giga and hippopus, do you know anything abou them?

Thanks,
Kyle

Yep-Thats what I meant.Sorry for the confusion.I'm not sure about the requirements for the others.I do know the Gigas will grow up to 2 feet or more.Kind of large for the home aquarium.

Kyle,

Your tank would be fine for Squamosa, Derasa, Hippopus or Gigas. The first three are available readily. I have never personally seen a Gigas sold at any lfs or any online stores for that matter. I am not sure where you would get one. The Squamosa, Derasa, and Gigas get big. I would make sure calcium stays high, at least once they start to get pretty big. Good luck.

I really want a gigas and i think i have found one online, but between the other three which do you prefer, I cant make my mind up. I like them all.

Thanks,
Kyle

I agree with Rothie, it's pretty much up to you. Choose the one you like the best. The Hippopus does not have as much mantle extension as the other two and is more translucent in appearance. The Derasa obviously gets the bigest next to T. gigas, so maybe that's a consideration.

I really like th derasa's with the black and white zebra/tiger stripe. Are they some kind of special clam or just luck of the draw?

Anyone know where to get a black and white one?

Thanks,
Kyle

You might be able to find where to get these Derasa from the Clams Direct forums or calling East Coast clams or Cams Drect and asking the staff.

David

ok i will look them up and call them, thanks for the help. where else are there quality clams?

Kyle
