Any sand on the market like Southdown?

Well, It's almost impossible to find Southdown sand unless you know someone that has a personal stash from the days when it was readily available, so I am wondering what you guys are using now days for your deep sand beds? Is there a 2nd favorite choice for sand that is available at Chicago-land hardware stores? Anyone have a specific brand they like or recommend?

Kolorscape playsand is about as close as you'll come to Southdown, distributed by the same company, but not quite the same.

I've got 12 bags of it and it doesn't look like I will be using it. Setting up a new tank with too much flow to use it, if you can't find it, I've got some.

Sully, what do you want for that? I finally got my 90g--will be setting it up this weekend. I was gonna wash my old sand out, but if you've got some at a good price...

I paid $4 a bag, so that's what I'm looking for. If not it'll be back at the HD in Palatine next week. I've got 12 bags, I'd guess they're 40lb bags, doesn't say, but says .4 cubic yards.

Although the Kolorscape sand is white, it is NOT aragonite sand. I, personally, don't think it makes any difference, but you should know it is silica sand before you buy it.

That's what I meant about not quite the same. It doesn't react to vinegar, but is the same size/color of Southdown.
I know others are using this sand and that's why I bought it, but it's too fine for what I need it for.

Is there an aragonite sand on the market right now?

Yes there is, it's from carrib sea. It's exactly like southdown. But it's $40 per 50# bags. .
