Any sps tanks running kessils?

Just seeing who has kessils growing their sps corals? I have two a360we's over my 75g and have a couple of monti's that grow like weeds but am looking to expand to acros. I wanted to see who all is doing it and maybe compare some spectrum/intensity settings?

Most SPS guys I know run t5s with them to round them out. I love their look but I don't know if I'd keep acros running them as the sole source of light....but that's just me

Do a search, there's quite a few threads on the topic. Lot's of success stories. I run all Kessils on several tanks and I'm growing SPS just fine. I started using them nearly 5 years ago when the A350s came out.

I have some MH ballasts that I use as door stops now :bounce3:

Do you have a tank thread or some pictures to share?

Hi DVeit, its possible to keep sps but some of them (mainly acroporas) dont react very well to kessils due to acclimation and I believe also due to the lack of some light spectrum.

Below, a pic of my 50g nanoreef that i had before with 1 Kessil A350N and 4 Par38.

Right now I have a bigger tank with a HQI 250W and 2 Kessil A350N. I was not having the results that I wanted just with the 2 Kessils so I added the HQI.

Which would be just the opposite of my experience which shows there's more to keeping SPS than just the light source.

Acros loving Kessil light in my tank. :love1:

Reefvet, I didnt say that you cant keep acroporas.... Actualy I did show my old nano with them. I said some of them dont react very well to there spectrum and are dificult to aclimate. I'm still running them because I love there light and shimmering but alone they are not sufficient to keep a great variaty of acroporas. Most of the tanks with a great variety of acroporas dont run kessils alone.

Of course light its not the only variable to take in consideration, but we were not talking about that.

I did misunderstand you Marco.

I think you can grow any coral under just Kessils if you keep the coverage good. I think the spectrum is just fine though it may produce different looking corals than under T5 or MH.

I've bought SPS that were Maricultured and no matter what light I put them under they never looked like they did when I first got them. The sun is still different than any artificial light.

I've bought a few ORA Maricultured SPS that never look anything like the photos on their site.
