Any tricks to make clown host?

I bought a 8 month old platinum clown and a rbta. The clown is not hosting it and i didn't buy them together. Anyone got any tricks on how to get him to host.

the only good trick is time, it can tank anywhere from minutes to never because the BTA is not a natural host to that type of clown. forcing the clown into the anemone can also lead to death. it took my occ. 8 months before it would go into the RBTA.

and I am sure you know that the anemone does the hoasting not the clown

I saw someone use a breeder box on a pair that wouldn't get together for a couple months and it only took a couple days. But I wouldn't care enough to do it.

With my pair of occelaris. I injected a ssmall amount of thawed mysis into the nem and it worked a couple times now. I would only do so with btas. Other nems with more potent stings can be dangerous if the clown doesnt acclimate at its own pace.

I want to highlight the last sentence. This is absolutely true.

Even still, I wouldn't recommend doing the breeder box trick, it will be taken out of context by others, and if it works they will see that and perpetuate a dangerous habit.

Putting an ocellaris in with, say, a haddoni could easily find yourself down a fish. Some fish seem to need a bit more anemone acclimation period. Just be patient, and it'll happen eventually (could be days, weeks, or even months).

Believe it or not, clownfish don't host exclusively on anemones. They can host mushrooms, torch, frogspawn and duncans to name a few. Don't force or trick your clown into hosting an anemone if it doesn't want to.

After having said that. My pink skunks hopped into the new haddoni in 5 minutes flat! lol
And it took a matter of hours for them to hop into the gigs. The important thing is... clowns know what they are doing and let them figure it out.

^^^ i know wild caught and even tank raised know, but what about tank bred clowns like all the designer clowns out there. many will never be hosted in something they dont know exists :(

First and foremost, clarification clowns do not host... It's the other way around but I know what y'all meant.

Most clowns will find a home to sleep in whether it be a nem or other corals or even overflows/on top by the corners. Clowns will call it home until it feels the need to relocate. For a clown to call a nem home doesn't always happen no one really knows why. Most wild caught clowns are better to find a nem as a home but TB clowns will be a bit more difficult unless the breeders introduce them at a young age. All my TB clowns are intro to nems at 30-45 days post hatch. So I know my clowns will not have a difficulty finding a nem/home. If I were you be patient they eventually will find something they call home on e they are comfortable in the environment. Clowns do not need an anemone to be happy but it is nice to see them swim in a gorgeous anemone. Good luck

The trick is to just wait and hope. I've been fortunate that all my pairs ended up in their BTAs. I currently have a pair of tank bred picassos. I put an RBTA in and within days 1 of them got in the nem. Two months later the other still hasn't gone in. The one shares it hassle free with an anemone porcelain crab, it's possible that there's no room for the other but I figure they'll boot the crab if need be.

Mines took less then 15 seconds. Jumped right in. But i have a mag. Natural host. I have 2 pairs of clowns and the 2 mags. Different system. But i tired bta, carpet and never saw them host it. As soon as the mag arrive bam. Instant. I bet if i took the mag out and replace it with a bta. It will host since it now feel safe with a nem. Good luck.

This is going to sound like a really weird suggestion but it has worked for me on more than one set of clownfish with a few different types of nems.

Print out a photo of similar clowns hosting a similar nem and tape it on the tank near where your clowns normally hang out.

I did this with my first set of Black Percs and a Green BTA and they were hosting it within a few days, up until that day (almost 9 months) they had never even gone near the nem.

It sounds weird and stupid but it works at least for me and a few others I know.

After personal exp. The perc and RBTA aren't a natural combo, I took out the true perc and added a maroon clown, when I added a maroon clown, within 3 mins he was all in the RBTA.

I have a pair of ORA Picasso's in less than a week the female was showing my GBT love a few days later the male was also. Guess I got lucky :-)
