Hello,
I might buy the new 9410 skimmer, but at the moment, I have seen no threads about it in my countrie's forums. Anybody can provide feedback on it, regarding silence and efficiency?

Best regards

Renaud

Maybe Shawn can post, he sent me some pics of his but they have only been available in the US for 2 weeks now. So far the two people who have written me about it are very pleased.

While it is not on a "tank" it is sitting in a rock bin with nothing but well cured rock and previously had an ASM G3 running on it. This pic was taken after only 18 hours and the air was not turned up all the way yet as was still breaking in.

I am also interested in this skimmer. Anyone else have it?

How do you tune the water level?

Shawn you know what else I'm looking at, Whats your opinion?

Water level on the Master DOCs are all pretty set by Tunze though you can tweek it a bit with a ring that is around the top of the outlet pipe. From the little I have played with this one the clamp on the airflow seems to be the best way to adjust it. I will say this skimmer packs alot of punch into a little body IMO.

kc350twin - from what I have experienced so far I think this would be a great choice for the current tank and I would have no problem putting it on the larger tank. With your concerns you mentioned this might be a real contender for you.

Thanks Shawn. I am definitely exploring all options. My last purchase was impulse and way too big. Plus needs to be quiet. The PSK 2500 was just loud.
I will say little adjustment scares me a bit.

Thanks again Shawn any chance on a loaner program? Ha Ha.

Between the booster ring to tweak water height and simply adjusting the airflow there is plenty of room for adjustment. I dont think it will be a concern from what I have seen. Noise won't be an issue with this one for sure either, and while your other option you are considering is not a noisey unit I will say this is quiter yet.

I have not heard the skimmer in a quiet room but it definately is not a loud skimmer at all. Next time I stop in I will put my ear up to it to get a better feel for the noise level or should say lack there of.

The main point of this skimmer is that it has a patented new system we developed of auto feedback. The small upper chamber under the cup will automatically regulate the air flow because as the surface tension changes the water rises and cuts the air flow. The booster ring and clamp are mainly used for the initial break in and to temporarily boost skimming when required. Probably the most important thing to do when you get this skimmer is to thoroughly rinse the filter bag in hot water, otherwise the phenols used in producing the bag will cause the skimmer to foam over immediately.

I checked it out again today and the skimmer is very quiet. The only real sound I could hear was the water flowing in the bag.

The Master DOc skimers have great potential since they show up years ago. Unfortnatly customers can rarely read or see reviews, fotos etc of the skimers in action, and that make skimer saleble.

More fotos , videos, reviews better for the hobbyst's

I bought the 9410.

Until now I have just tested it in a large bucket with old water from my tank.

At first it was very silent and the most noisy thing was the water splashing from the outlet. Suddenly after an hour or so it started making a weird cricket noise. This stopped again after a couple of hours and now it is just making a lot of buzzing noise that is twice as loud as the rest of my full setup!

The size of the bubbles and the air mixture seems rather good, but overall I'm quite dissapointed in the "silence" pump.

This problem can be solved, if you write to the factory they will fix it. Air bubbles are building up in the upper bearing and we since added a bypass loop to purge the air bubbles from the bearing.

If you write them from the Tunze website they will get it, if you select English though it will come to me.

I received it straight with the new 9410.40 pump (plus a 9010.40 which I do not know how to use, because I did not order it )

At the moment, I cannot use it, I need to finish the new sump because old one is too small, but it should be running this week end.

The plastic looks nice and overall quality too.

I have only one remark up to now, which is that the bottom does not seem very stable (If I push the body with one finger, it moves a bit then come back to position). I do not know if it is normal or not (the weight of the pump seems to be the reason for it).
