anybody use the canon s5is?

So I went to Cancun this weekend and got to try the s5is out on something other than aquariums.....turns out this camera takes great non-reef pics too.....and you've gotta love the 10X zoom! Here are some of my favorites:

Those are some nice pics, glad you made it back. Those look like dslr pics rather than a s5.

Absolutely gorgeous pics. What settings were you using for the outside shots? Just AUTO?

Thanks! For the pics where I was photographing something outside that wasn't very close to me I just used auto mode. For some of the close ups I switched to manual and used manual focus with super macro mode. There was generally a lot of light so I could set the shutter speed pretty high while keeping the F-Stop above 5 and ISO at 80.

i used P mode mostly. keeping the iso low, and being able to adjust my white balance and whatnot.

Hold on, your pics are on Auto mode? Wow

most of them are....and none of these have been through any sort of image editing software. It's a good camera!

Speaking of image editing software....tell me more about what you did in Picasa. Can you post a comparison so I can look at the difference? I've never heard of "defogging" before. I'd like to find a good way to edit some of the pics that don't turn out quite the way I'd like them to.

defogging is basically sharpening and adjusting the color a bit. when i upload a "before shot" you will notice how "foggy" it looks

also, the software the camera comes with doesnt do too shabby of a job. open the pics up in zoom browser and click edit. you can adjust some levels and stuff to make them kinda pop

Hi Boudster
I'm so glad that you started this thread as I am a total newbie and in the market for a new camera. ( Although I don't have a saltwater tank, (don't hate me please) I do have freshwater) Can I ask where you purchased your camera and what the model number is? You're pictures are just awesome!! I'm going to primarily be taking pictures of my kids, and being outdoors, so I'm looking for something like your camera that's crisp and clear!! I think the Macro would come in handy for nature pictures. I would really like to get one new and not refurbished, as I'm just a little leary. If you or anyone else can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated!!
