anybody wanna show off their "smart" TV?

jcw, great post from someone who obviously deals with these products on a daily basis. There was only one thing in his post that I would take exception with and that was regarding HDMI cables, and it also applies to any digital cable regardless of purpose. There is no need to break the bank on HDMI cables in standard consumer lengths up to about 15 ft. HDMI is a digital transmission mode that sends 1's and 0's across a cable from one end to the other. There is nothing difficult about detecting the difference between a 1 and a 0 in most consumer applications. This means that a quality low priced cable will be able to transmit an intelligible signal as well as the most expensive cable in most cases. Avoid crappy Chinese cables and you'll be fine.

Yes, Never spend more than $20 on a cable. I have monster and cheap hdmi and can't tell the difference. I am super fussy with the picture so I would be able to tell. I have had cheap hdmi cables die after a few years. But it was a mininum investment.

Sony Tv's are good but I did get burned on a sony minidisc player in the late 90's when someone at Stereo Advantage convinced me digital mp3's would never catch on.

I have the Samsung 8000 series and the Sony 820 series and hands down the samsung wins in picture quality. I am using high end HDMI with my setup. I am not dogging Sony, but after the big blowout they had with all the optical block failure I will never buy another one....I received my Sony at a drastically discounted rate because I had one of the Sony TVs that failed and they discounted a replacement for me.

monoprice.com for any cable you need. I have used them many, many times and will as long as they are around

I've seen several 8000 series Sammys in person and they're awesome! I made my choice and purchased it today... a 6000 series Samsung. IMO a very good choice for my brightly lit home. A Panasonic plasma was a close second. Now I gotta get 'Blue Planet' for my blu-ray :fish1:
