Anyone carry Bio-Spira locally?

98.9% Hype!!!!
Used it personally to cycle the new tanks at our shop when we were opening..........It will never be in my store again!

Crap like this has been sold since I started in this hobby decades ago. Different names, same ridiculous claims.
As a guy who sets up & maintains aquariums as his sole source of income, you'd think my words would carry some weight.
Yet, I got ripped in another RC thread for expressing my disgust at the "magic instant bio-cycling" products. One guy angrily asked me how I knew they don't work, and I answered "experience." Then a LFS owner attacked me, saying I was just ignorant.
It's amazing how "Internet experts" dismiss 40 years of experience.
(I bet someone will write in here and say how well it works....)

Thanks guys, I will skip this product.

I will say I read the difference with this product is that it stays refrigerated. Doing so keeps the cultures alive longer or something... In any event, I will go another route.

That was a terrible time :(

Yeah I agree Jim, we will never carry that crap either. Anyone telling you it works is trying to sell you something you don't need. I have personally used "Cycle" (Hagen) many times with good results on F/W and S/W but maybe that was just luck, I don't know. I just know we used Bio once and will never do that again. Anytime I start a SW tank now I just use raw cocktail shrimp.

I've used Cycle on all my tanks when I started them but one. It seemed to have shortened the cycle time some but still took 2-3 weeks to cycle.

I personally disagree. I've used the FW and SW versions numerous times myself.. .both in cycling and after a 12+ hour move. Never had any spikes, never any fish loss or stress. It's extremely important to get it from a good dealer to be sure it's been kept refridgerated but not frozen, add it and the livestock at the same time... no water changes or skimmers for a week.

just my experience.

get some sand from an established tank.

let it partially die. (will stink abit)

put it in the tank

check ammonia

should spike very high

use cycle as instructed on the box

tank should cycle in less than 2 weeks

My experience

I have used the Bio-Zyme powder for freshwater tanks that comes in a little yellow tub. I never had a problem with it and have used it for over 20 yrs. When I decided to try saltwater, that was one of the 1st items I looked for! The person teaching me about saltwater did not know what it was describing. Bio-Zyme for saltwater comes in a red tub. I used her dirty water/sand and filter cartridges along with a couple spoons of the Bio-Zyme. My first salt tank was ready in 2 weeks! I never worried about my freshwater tanks maturing since I never encountered a problem and they are not nearly as fragile as salt. I have had a fresh tank of some sort going since I was in high school. I have always had dirty (bacteria filled)- water, gravel, & filters and added the Bio-zyme for every tank I set-up. I personnelly feel it helps and the product is low in price so I will continue to use it in both my saltwater and freshwater tanks! Just my personal opinion!
