Going there this fall, supposedly there is some beach club there that has a decent beach dive but I cant remember the name.

when I was there i dove off the beach with my dad. There was a guy in a van that was offering beach dives for liek $50 a piece. My dad wasnt even certified! We only went down about 30' though. But it was one of the best dives I have evr been on,

I almost live in St. Thomas and have for almost 12 years - I am there once a week every month; sometimes two weeks a month. I have a VI drivers license, so suffice to say I know the island.

Call Dwayne at Admirality Dive Center - tell him Savas referred you. His number is (888) 900-DIVE or (340) 777-9802. Very competent company and great dives with 6 or less people. He has some great dives GPS'ed that only he does. Ask him to do the wrecked plane that crashed this year.

I went to St. Thomas 2 years ago. I took 2 shore dives right off of Coki beach. It was well worth the $$$ low prices! Saw lots of nice stuff. Barrel sponges bigger than nail kegs. Snorkeling was great too. Locals wait on you hand and foot. We got 2 for 1 drink specials all day.
Also try to snorkel at Sapphire Beach resort. We took several a couple of day trips (including St. John). Where we were staying Sapphire beach, was as good as any place we went (go out to the point out to the left or schools of blue tangs to the right) Best snorkeling I ever been to.
We went to St Martin this past year. Boat dive on this trip, rockwork covered with every color sponge you could imagine, incredible !

Coki Beach is a great and cheap dive. They do dives almost every hour. The night dives are wonderful as the place is loaded with octopus.

Sapphire Beach is my favorite place to stay on the island too. They have the best and closest reef you can find. Hull Bay also has great snorkeling on the Atlantic side of the island.

If you do go to Sapphire Beach, make sure to snorkel/dive all the way around the right point from the main beach. Many intricate crevices and coral. Some of the biggest brain coral I've seen. Go all the way to the cove between the point and marina and there is a large crop of staghorn and elkhorn coral. At the end of the point is the Best. I didn't want to leave eventhough I was provoked by a barracuda...

Tony, you know your stuff. I am in St. Thomas now at Sapphire. I saw either a shark or barracuda get stuck in the reef at low tide on Sunday afternoon. You kept on seeing a dorsal fin try and go over the reef everytime a wave went out.

You can also walk to the left side of the beach - past Mick Fleetwoods old house - and dive that point too. It is full of soft corals.

Hey Savas...Yea I snorkeled to the left side of Sapphire also. Didn't realize it was Mick Fleetwoods old house. Everytime I went to the left, I saw huge schools of blue tangs carpeting the rock work. (Corals were not as abundant though) What did you mean by soft corals? I have yet to see stuff like anemones. Did you happen to snorkel past the rock to where the sand bed starts? I saw spotted eagle rays and sea turtles here. There was also one huge pillar of rock standing alone in the middle of all this sand. It was surrounded by hundreds of fish. Looked like a fish motel !

Did you happen to go to St John? The island was much prettier and snorkeling was great also. You could have rented a 2 person dingy which came with a map to snorkel/site see around the island. We opted to rent a jeep which meant a lot of WALKING to some of the better spots. The BEST was at Waterlemon Cay. It was a 2 mile walk, but well worth it. I read where the cove was "littered" with starfish. Only when I swan across the cove did I see what they were talking about. WOW ! they were everywhere. They were huge and all shades of yellow/orange/red. When we first got there, we hiked around the cove and would have missed this...We will rent the dingy next time....
