Anyone else order the new Maxspect Gyre?

I think i've settled on running the gyre on the right side of glass horizontally at about 10-30% and I have and mp10 down on opposite side of tank on back glass running at about 40% on various modes. That setup is very quiet and keeps my tank deadspot free.

Anyone hear of updates for the Apex-ready controller? Or an interface to control the Gyre via the Apex? It's not critical, but it would be nice to be able to control it via the Apex (going into feed mode, for example).

I haven't heard of any Apex updates as of late. I do hope we are able to retrofit the update to our existing pumps next year if/when the Apex update happens. It would be horrible if the first adopters couldn't do that.

If I can borrow one for a weekend, I can find out how to get the gyre to be controlled by apex. I know the gyre pump can reverse direction, but need to know what is the signal that cause it to reverse direction. I suspect it is similar to the way servo motors work.

Mine has been running for 3 days now no issues yet super quite and it moves some water

Yeah Im loving the flow from this thing in my 120. Absolutely no dead spots anywhere now. Even with two RW15s I had dead spots. Im going to try and take out all my ceriths and pray I dont break more propellers. I'll probably buy a few backups just in case.

Maybe OT but I don't seem to have a dead spot with my MP 40 but I do run with out the fish guard. Do you guys with the MP 40 have a dead spot?

Sure would like to get a gyre but a snail breaking off the blade seem a bit fragile? Maybe just bad luck.

anyone else annoyed by the humming sound this pump makes? I set it up to a point where I can only hear a slight humming noise same as my mp40's and I can say that on same noise level, my mp40's move a lot more water.

That's not good news for me to hear =).. I was going to get one for my tank, currently running 2x mp40esw and 2x mp10 esW. But come to think about it I doubt it will be louder than all of them lol..

Do you think two of them would be louder than what I'm running now?

Here's to hoping they are included in some black Friday sales ( doubtful though since they are the new hot thing)

+1. Since it sits inside the tank, I assumed it was silent, or near silent. How loud is it compared to MP40s? I was planning to get one to replace my MP40s because I want a near silent system. Now I am having second thoughts.

Any other opinions on the noise this thing makes?

If you're using it above 50% you're going to hear it. I run mine around 80% and it's fairly noisy. I haven't had mp40's in a while but I remember them being just as loud when cranked up.

I've had both. I can tell you right now that mp10 at less than half is louder than my gyre at about 30%. I just sold my mp40 and when testing it cranked up I would say its louder than a gyre at 100%. The gyre does make noise though at higher settings. I have it running on constant mode. I think you don't pick up on it as easily as an mp40 since the gyre noise is constant like a return pump or somethine whereas the vortech is always speeding up and down. It might also be quieting down as it breaks in. Not sure yet.

Thanks for the info guys I'm really not sensitive to the noise I just don't want to be with a new product lol.. I gotta say though my mp's really don't bother me much and are fairly quiet, my tank runs really quiet also.

Really thinking of running 2 of these in place of the 4 pumps I have
Since I need to add more now anyways. I'm beginning to get areas in the tank that need more flow and with only a 105g it's hard to find room for the other mp40 I have, was going to add some rw 15's into the tank but think I've just changed my mind..

Will what I'm thinking be better in your opinions? Will two cover more area than the 6 pumps In the tanks future? It's hard for me to believe it thinking just on the premise of more point sources but it's such a different beast that it's probably better. Now let's just hope they are reliable lol

For your tank I think two would be perfect with how grown out things are in there. Im not sure how I'd run them though if I were you. They are going to make some adapters for the apex in the future which would be cool by having them in anti sync placed on opposite ends of the tank. I have no clue what it would take to do something like this with your reef angel though.

I'd probably grab one and test it on the tank to see if you like the flow. You're always welcome to check my tank if you're ever in the area.
