Anyone ever ordered grung from garf. Was checking out the site and was wondering if it is worth it. Looks kind of cool maybe nice to give a boost to live sand.

just remember to always be a little wary of what you get in live sand...you may get good, but you might also get bad...that's the same reason I had no interest in a sand swap that was suggested awhile back, no offense to anyone here, but I would rather not add the problems of someone else's tank to mine and vice versa. there are a lot of nasty weird things out there.

I have been there too and wondered the same. One of my students claimed their dad ordered a batch and was not all that happy with it but that is a large amount of hear-say info (don't trust that opinion)

I have concerns about the large gaps becoming a serious nutrient trap
on the other hand their tanks look great. I think, to make it work, you have to totally buy into how they operate their tanks. NOT a pick and choose option IMO

With all due respect, adam, I think that you can get bad stuff in anything that you get.... Corals, fish, LR, live sand etc. This is why you should QT anything that you put in your tank. I really can't see that as an argument against this stuff.

There is a risk in putting anything in your tank! Even your own hands! Was just wondering if anyone had ordered any? And how it turned out.

I learned the hard way about QT I added a donated frag to my main tank without a qt period (dumb) it had a small trace of bryso- algae on it which spread like wild fire across my tank. still battling as we speak

but back to the grunge, the site is interesting to think about
if I had the money I would set up a 20 long mini and see how it works.

I was not intending to sound like a basher just expressing my worries as I looked at the site

sorry if it sounded that way to anyone

No its cool im just looking for opinions that what you gave. Just trying to make a decision. Dont know if its worth my money and time to check it out.

I started my system with Garf grunge before I really knew how to keep a reef alive several years ago. It has tons of critters in it and many strains of corraline algae (worms, snails, pods, stars and a bunch of other stuff that I'm not sure what it is) If you want critters grunge has critters in it. I recommend it and i'm going to buy more to reinnoculate my next system.

It was Roger (knpjdad) so you would ask him for the details. Unfortunately he is no longer in the hobby so it may be hard to reach him.

I wonder how hard it is on a system to readjust to the addition of such a mix of creatures.

I am not thinking for myself because I am still in the middle of a nasty battle but just a generic tank that is running ok but maybe somewhat depleted in terms of refu or main tank sand bed

I can really see both sides here: on the one hand the diversity strenghtens what is already there

on the other I doubt anyone really knows all the guys that come in that mix, is everyone going to get along sort of speak

I would love to visit a fully commited to the grunge system and see exactly for myself what is going on

Maybe in his profile - the e-mail link would work? Worth a shot :)
